Need to figure in Inflation prices from previous films (Dark Knight was 4 years ago) and adjust to see how it compares.

Yeah, these sorts of articles should use inflation-adjusted figures. But even when you factor that in, TDK doesn't come close.

Of course Sunday isn't over yet either...

Although I am pumped to hear this news...I question how accurate this figure is when taken into consideration...this figure reflects Friday and Saturday only...not Sunday. Thus...is this $200.3 million accurate or merely an estimate.

Its an estimate but its usually pretty accurate most time only off by a few million. Of course Deadline reported TA made 65ish mil on friday and underestimated it by 15mil because it got really strong legs Fri night.

Even adjusted, The Avengers is still the #1 highest-grossing film in opening weekend history.

I enjoyed both films but I wonder why people need to adjust inflation prices for both films? With the economy the way it is today(a lot of countries are financially suffering) it's a great feat for the Avengers to cross 200Million(if that figure holds up) domestically and even more incredible for crossing 400Million and change overseas.

Every year people have less disposable income to spend on entertainment. Every year something is introduced in the market where people spend their money elsewhere(tablets, Iphones, androids, etc,). How was the economy 4 years ago? Did the Dark Knight have less competiton for people spending their money elsewhere? Has downloading increased in those 4 years?

DC/Warner Bros must feel like ***t today. With the exception of the Nolan BATMAN films, they've COMPLETELY MISMANAGED their film properties. They could have had a Wonder Woman movie by JOSS WHEDON! He was set to direct it when the higher ups decided to kill the project. Whedon probably would have gone on to film the Justice League movie.

I think DC/Warner Bros need to fire everyone at the top of their media/movies division. They're simply too dumb to run that company.

Since Green Lantern has been ruined for an age in both comics and movies by the ineptitude of Geoff Johns, I'd leave that property out for at least 10 years. I'd establish movies of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman (batman already has been established by Nolan), The Flash, Cyborg, The Atom and maybe Zatanna. Then maybe a Justice League movie would be do-able. Of course, you'd either need to steal Joss Whedon from Marvel OR find someone just as talented to direct the movies. The other thing I'd do is recruit the screenwriters from the comics themselves: Grant Morrison, Scott Snyder, Jeff Lemire and Warren Ellis. These writers know what make great comic book stories. (not the awful ones that Bob Harras likes).

I think what's outrageous about the incompetent Managers of DC/Warner Bros is that they didn't realized that when Marvel releases movies like Thor, a Wonder Woman movie will be viewed as derivative or even a NEW GODS movie would be viewed as derivative because there are similar elements involved. When Marvel releases a movie like IRON MAN, a CYBORG movie would also be seen as derivative. There never seemed to be any urgency at DC/Warner Bros to get their properties out there before Marvel.

One thing that DC does better than Marvel is parallel universes, They should leverage that aspect of their comic book universe in their movie universe.

The final nail in the DC's coffin is now that AVENGERS 2 will feature THANOS, DC can't use DARKSEID as the main villain of their potential JLA movie.

That's an insane number, and well-deserved too. I thought it was truly a great film.

Maybe it's about time DC and Warner Bros. realize they have the potential to pull this off as well.

Man, someone at DC must be hitting their heads on the wall for letting Whedon escape like this.

They came very close. And if they did a movie with Supermand AND Batman it would easily make money.

Though they might want to avoid alien invasion plot and using Darkseid now...

Congratulations to Marvel, Disney and Whedon!

It's a great movie, it keeps the continuity and imagination flowing and I think it shows that comics are a legitimate form of entertainment for all. I'm glad they got it right, made a great film with epic scope, while keeping hero characterization a focal point in a movie. I hope for many more successes!
