Default Why "you know who" wants Earth *Avengers Movie spoilers*

So Thanos is the next big bad. But why is Death's would be Romeo gagging to get at a backwater low tech world like earth anyway? What's his big prize?

    Humanity.

Thanos is an Eternal. His people orginated from the Celestials seeding early humanity with the potential for great power. Thanos knows this and decided to test humanity to gage it's power and potential for violence.

Judging from his smirk he was most pleased. He wants to turn humanity into his army of death. He knows this is possible because at a basic level he himself is human. The Hulk alone probably made him giddy.

This is in contrast to Loki who looks down on humanity. Thanos would see the Avengers as the same as himself leading to greater pathos. Also the revelation that they every other race that has been seeded by the Celestials(Kree and SKrulls) have become galactic despots would cause some good moments.

I think he wants the spotlight, cause there's plenty of that on Earth.

I think he just wants his own movie. And he probably wants to be played by George Clooney or someone like that.
"John Stewart. LAME! ...this guy having a ring is like giving the batmobile to a blind old woman with her left leg in a cast."

"Pym biting Blobs head off seems like something that would have happened when i was ten years old and playing with action figures."

"i always assumed that [the blob] had the same powers as his 616 counterpart because, if simply being a huge fat guy was enough to be considered a mutant then there sure are a lot of mutants in 'real life'. "

I figured he'd also be up for a challenge given how the Avengers overcame great odds.

I hope humanity's abilities to adapt and love defeat him.

Is Earth considered a back water planet in the Marvel U? Why do so many other races and beings fight over it?

He wanted the cube. His Second in command spelled it out pretty clearly to Loki, I thought.

I think he's just a conquerer. Earth's just on his hit list.

I think the reveal at the end is Thanos, but I think this version of Thanks used to be the Red Skull. They cut away to what looks like a human hand before showing his face. He did have 70+ years to adapt and take over if the cube transported him there.

I think the focus on the hand was to foreshadow the Infinity Guantlet.

Maybe, but it was still a human hand, nothing like the aliens from the movie. And certainly a reason to subjugate Earth, vs just taking the cube. It was a suspicious decision for the Cap movie to have the Skull disappear at the end.

So he could come back for the Captain America sequel.

We'll have to remain of respectfully differing opinions then. Anything short of Cap tearing off Red's head and burning it to ash (which would have been odd to see) wouldn't preclude him from returning, but it could be as you say. Personally the Infinity Gauntlet seems even more 'cosmicy' even though this movie pulled off a cosmic story very well. I'd prefer more of a Masters of Evil sequel but think I'll be happy regardless.

The reason is simple. Thanos ultimate goal in life is 1. to die and 2. To kill tons of people to please Lady death. So when his 2nd in command tells Thanos to face The Earth is to court Death, He smiles in pleasure. This is because he gets to kill tons of people on earth and the prospect of being killed by the avengers excites him. Sounds crazy, but Thanos is in love with death. I decided to give you a real answer because it seemed like everyone else took your question as a joke.

Oh and if they do something stupid like make the Red Skull Thanos I will never waste my time watching another marvel movie. Thanos is the Ultimate villain in the Marvel U. You DO NOT take a LAME Captain America character and try to make him Thanos.
