    Default Spider-man reign : a few questions

Just recently read the book and while I enjoyed it, there where quite a few things about the book that I would really like to know.

    1. Did Spider-man actually kill and didn't give a damn?
    2. Spider-man hits JJJ, but in the next issue he's still supporting him?
    3. JJJ ,despite having a punch right in the face, sure recovered very fast?!

Spider-man Reign was a pretty damn good book in my view.
Yes. It stoal way too many things from the Dark Knight Returns.
Yes. The set up could have been better.
And Yes. MJ's death was kinda of well...weird.
But I thought that the book really did capture the rationship between Peter and MJ in a really speical amazing why.
While the Dark Knight Returns was about being a Hero again, I thought that Reign went deeper into a Super Hero's mind and that a hero, despite pain and age, still lives along inside of us.

Oh and this thread is't about comparing the two by the way.

It was weird but still pretty damn tragic in its own way. Make all the jokes you want about "radioactive semen," but Peter's pain was palpable in those scenes where he recalled his final days with Mary Jane. Hell, if you want a "realistic" counterpoint, think about it like accidentally contracting a disease and then unwittingly passing it on to the person you love most while expressing that love in the most intimate manner possible. Lots of people have had to deal with that and it's why testing is such a big thing nowadays, since nobody wants to inflict that kind of misery on someone they love or live with that kind of guilt.

    You're absolutely right, Assassin Spider.

I personally enjoyed Reign quite a bit. It's now how I personally envision Peter's story ending, but it's a really good take. And it succeeds in being heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time.

    1. Yup; he was in a pretty dark place at that point, and needed to save the world and all that.
    2. Spidey and the Jolly One have a complicated relationship in any continuity.
    3. You can't hurt Jonah. You can only make him angry.

Thanks Wilson. I just can't believe that spidey would kill. For real. It still doesn't make any sense why JJJ stilll cheered for Spidey after punching him in the face!?
I thought that Reign lacked character development maybe or something. Does Reign take place In some kind of a darker Alternate Universe and not 616? If so I think that it'll be the perfect explantion.

I did not find it at all wierd. It's not wierd for someone exposed to radiation poisoning, which altered his dna, to have radioactive sperm. It was not wierd, cause ultimately the "phisical act of love" was what killed her.

As for JJJ cheering, I guess it wanted to say that ultimately they have a love/hate relationship.

And Spidey would not kill, sure, but we are talking about this kind of future, and an aged man with nothing to lose.

Personally I really enjoyed Reign. Sure if there was no DKR it would have been a masterpiece, however it's still a good story and it is not only "DKR only with Spider-Man", it's more.

I need to re-read it soon. It was brought up in another thread as a title someone thought was the worst comic they'd ever read. I remember liking it a lot though.

Truth is some people REALLY hated it. Personally, as I said I thought it was very good, and aside form the story, I think Kaare Andrews is a fantastic artist.

I've lately been reading a lot of comments and reviews for Reign but I haven't read any true hatred for the book though. I Just think that Reign is a book you'll either love of hate to be honest. If you love a spidey that brings fun ( the kind that everyones used to ) then you may not like it. Or If you like dark gritty stories chances are that you'll really like it. As for me there where some things that I liked ( and loved ) about Reign but there where also a lot of flaws that really brought the book down.

Did you like the story at all?

I thought the art was spot on

and I actually thought MJ's cause of death was something interesting and showed another side of the coin of having the great power Spidey has
