I think that scene is hilariously surreal. These superheroes who just fought in some giant battle... silently munching on kebabs just like normal people? Awesome.
Thanks @Marshall, now I'll have to go get myself some kebabs
It was established in the film that the alien energy force field around the machine was impossible to penetrate, so I think you just have to say the government sending in the nuke was much like the move in Independance Day, they didn't know what else to do, so they just threw a nuke at the problem.
And as in that movie, I think it would have had much the same effect, it would not have penetrated the force field, that's why they wrote in a bit of a deus ex machina, with the scientist somehow able to circumvent enough of the mind control so that he built a back door into the machine.
Just got back from seeing the film
So......the Hulk and Loki fight will be entering pop culture lexicon as the greatest asskicking ever, right?
"When your daughter is infected, I'm gonna make you watch her die." -Jack Bauer, Day 3 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, 24
Greatest slapstick moment of the movie would be more appropriate I think(and actually, I think Hulk punching Thor was funnier). Loki was obviously de-powered when he fought Cap, just as he was when he faced the Hulk, he could have easily confused Hulk with his duplicates, or any other number of spells could have been used, but no, instead of a dramatic fight, they went for a gag. People loved those sort of dumb laughs in the Transformers movies too, so y'know, that's the same kind of thing they went for.
It would have been a more interesting scene if Loki had not been so de-powered I think.
But that's what they had to do to make Cap and Hulk look good.
Like I said in the other thread. I don't think Loki was depowered as much as he was too shaken/enraged to mount a defense at that point what with being knocked out of the sky by a human archer. I could especially seeing this throwing him off his games sense he feels that humans are ants compared to himself. I mean wouldn't you be freaked out if an ant knocked you on your butt one day? That's why he went off on his rant. He was reinforcing his own beliefs because he couldn't fathom everything that was happening. The problem for him is that Hulk is the strongest one there is. I mean yeah Loki's an Asgardian, but his strength isn't like Thor' who is abnormally strong by Asgardian standards. In a moment of weakness like that Hulk would be able to take out pretty much anyone below his weight class.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!
So what exactly do you want ? Loki to kick cap's ass so hard so when iron man swoop in and save him , Stark can mock him throughout the movie ? Loki was still stronger than any normal human , he was still fairly dominating Cap physically.
As far as the hulk/loki , it was a perfect setup actually ? Loki likes to pontificate , he likes an audience , he likes his own voice so hulk grabbing him and using him like a ragdoll in the middle of Loki's speech was just perfect.
Thank you!
I'm honestly not understanding why people are making such a big deal about the motivation of the aliens. The aliens were nothing but a cosmic-sized machine gun. That's all. They were nothing but tools. If people paid attention to the film they'd understand that. Their sole purpose was to invade and help Loki conquer. That was their motivation in exchange for Loki giving Thanos the Tesseract, which is an infinite source of power capable of opening gateways to pretty much anywhere in the universe.

DC could and more than likely will try and do a JL movie now but it just won't work the same way the AVENGERS did. The fact that we had the other films spotlighting the individual characters first played a big part in why AVENGERS worked as well as it did. They were able to get on with the story without spending so much time explaining who everyone are and what they can do. There was just the introduction and fast reminder. In a JL movie with no lead in movies they'd have to devote time explaining who all the players are and bog the story down. If they tried the Marvel route in giving each character a solo movie first it will fall apart because DC can't seem to get anyone excited over their characters other than SUpes and Bats.
I have seen a lot of people say something like this. Stuff like "I am sick of comic book movies" and such.
There are like 3-4 a year max. (Ghost Rider, TA, ASM, TDKR)... why is there so more hatrid towards them. Especially when at least 2 of them are going to be very good?
Crapfire... how many sappy dramas do we get a year with the same identical formula? How many comedies do we get with the same formula? Don't understand why comic book movies get so much hate from some people.
