I know what you're talking about. Sometimes the writers' attempts at capturing accents and dialect and whatnot, with characters like Rogue, Sam and Gambit, just comes off as stiff and, sometimes, incomprehensible. Zora Neal Hurston could pull it off; Carey and Gage, less so.

I would enjoy that. I was reading my friend's French Asterix comics last night, and everything is more fun in French.

I find it amusing that people criticise Gambit for being bilingual and codeswitching, and present that as a sign of lesser intelligence. The truth is that he seems equally competent in English and French, at least from the linguistic perspective of all dialects and varieties being equal. Standard English is such a chimera, and none of us speak standard all of the time, so it just comes down to the fact that he speaks a stigmatized variety and a lot of us don't.
