Well the Joker is batshit insane so really if you did pull a joke on him and he thought it was funny he might let you live, or he might kill you cause it would be funny or him being jealous. Really Joker is unpredictable he can be funny and "nice" one minuite., and extremly homicidal and scary the next.

I don't know whether this counts, but in a late-'90s story, Batgirl defeated the Joker just by laughing at him. He was paralyzed with confusion and anger as he was handcuffed.
