No we really aren't. I'm sorry but we aren't victims & i'm so sick of seeing my own demographic pretend to be victims, or hard done by. We are in no way hard done by within our hobby, either as a fan or as a creator: its just not the case. Seriously this is half the problem with women in comics: Everyone else being offended for us. If i am offended by something first i'll check to make sure its actually offensive & i'm not just being overly sensitive & then i'll tell you why its offensive. Women really don't need other people being offended for us, we are completely capable of getting our ideas across on our own.

We are not hard done by, we are not victims & this article was not offensive: It was stupid, not offensive.

I'm taking my daughter to see the Avengers. She's not into comics at all (She will not inherit my empire!) but she's interested in the movie. I think she's pretty smart enough to catch on quickly. I'd like to hear some of the male posters response to taking their girlfriends who may not be into comics to see the Avengers. By the way my girlfriend isn't into comics but she really likes it that I am. She thinks it's kinda cool that I've had a hobby since I was a young kid and stuck with it.

I don't like the articles establishment of a dichotomy between boys and girls; that they can't communicate with each other and what not. "What to say?" say what you want. Don't let an article tell you your opinions. "Thank GOD someone did the Hulk correctly?" Geez, let people make their own opinions. This is just a poorly constructed satirical essay... with no purpose? It's the worst kind of fluff: bad fluff.
Also, what is it satirizing? The article is written far too straight.

I mean, if you're going to do this, swing for the fences. I mean, just giving the rough drafts of all the players? @#$%, I get that from Entertainment Weekly.

I mean, if you are going to do a "satirical" article, be satirical. Overplay the whole "girly" aspect. Focus on the superficial aspects that girls are "supposed" to be interested in ("Lookie girls, Scarlet Widow is some sort of super agent, but how much butt she kicks doesn't matter if she doesn't have the hair to go with it!" "Take time to check out other girls fashions while waiting in line, because OBVIOUSLY you're not going to be paying attention to the film once you get inside!" ) REALLY try to be offensive and see how many people play it straight.

Um... Where in this article is any of that said? Because i've reread this article a dozen times & the things that people are offended by in this article doesn't seem to actually appear in this article. An if thats the case, isn't that like me suddenly being offended by you RDMacQ & your stance on how gay people are immoral & should be executed... Oh sure you never said that, you never gave any indication that you think that, but apparently things like evidence are not required to be offended by something that only exists inside my head.

Seems to me that we've hit that time in the comic book news cycle when people WANT to be offended & if there is nothing offensive there, people will invent something to be offended by.

    ...................

OK, you do realize that people can go back to my original post and can see for themselves that I was pointing out the folly of the article, right? How it was tried to explain itself by being "satirical" but didn't really satirize anything? And that the point that you cut out was just pointing out how they COULD have gone i.e. swung for the fences and be REALLY offensive and OVERplay the girly aspects in order to BE satirical and make light of how females are "normally" marketed in regards to these things?

I'm sorry, but its really not there. I've gone back and looked. The things you seem to think are there, just aren't there. I know i've gone back and looked... 3 times now. Eitehr you are looking at a different article to me, or you're inserting a message that just isn't there.

    Uh huh.

So, in other words, in the process of complaining about people going out of their way to be offended by something, you went out of your way to be offended by something?

I'm not offended: No amount of you being objecitvely, demonstrably wrong is offensive to me.

But be aware that i reserve the right to tell you when you are being wrong... Like now.

Who was being offended for you? Is it possible they felt it was offensive by themselves? Or are men not allowed to have opinions on what is sexist? Not to be confusing, I am female.

Prince of Orphans did when he made the statement: I totally get it. Female comic fans have it really tough on all sides. I honestly don't blame you for being so offended.

It paints us female comic book fans as helpless victims of cirmcumstance, rather then as fully capable fans, capable of being offended for ourselves: we really don't require a group of people getting up in arms for us. Just take a look at how many people in this thread are male & being offended for us. Especially given how pedestrian that article was. It was silly, it was not offensive. Most of the things people are offended by in that article doesn't acutally exist. Heck DCWKA did an entire thing on it herself: it was satire, that unfortunately fell foul of poes law. Ill advised maybe, but not sexist & most certainly not offensive.

I don't see how someone sympathizing with and understand my opinion paints me or female fans or whoever as helpless victims of circumstances. In this case he's also stating the opinion that women have it tough in comics, which he is just as capable of noticing as you or I. It's not like we figure out what's offensive by some gut feeling that men, not being the subject, do not have. It's critical thinking and paying attention, mostly.

If you find something that someone says is offensive which doesn't exist, feel free to point it out... personally I find the idea that the girl needs someone to give her such basic info, stuff you'd easily learn from the film, and pointing out the romantic and sexual aspects of it, kind of offensive. Basically a dumb blonde joke. Plenty of people clearly don't, plenty of people agree. Not uncommon.
