    "'Nough said"? Ugh.

    It's 'Nuff. 'NUFF.

    I...I can't read any further.

And unfortunately this article wasn't even trying to do THAT. I could have found it funny if it were for girls and tried to actually explain the Avengers comic book origins (which yeah ignores the geekets out there, but that's why they had an apology to them at the start)... but it was trying to explain the Avengers MOVIE. It made no references to the comics at all, even in the "impress your BF with these facts" section. The movie is NOT that complicated, and it's a bit offensive that ANY woman would need it to be explained to her at all. Like... would they need to explain Terminator to the poor dumb gf, too?

Ignoring a sexist/racist/homophobic comment is just silently allowing it.

Possibly? Not that she's dumb, of course. Just that there's a chance she hasn't seen it before.

Is posting about a comic book article on a comic book message board really "taking it seriously" though? I don't see how this is any different than the "look at this dumb IGN list" topics, as I said, this is basically the designated space for getting angry about trivial nerdthings. Plus, the thread title is pretty much asking for the lady posters here to give their opinion about this article, I wouldn't be talking about it otherwise.

I also feel that if you were going to make a totally shallow, heterocentrist, completely non-informative "Girls Guide to the Avengers" the less-effort more-payoff option is posting a bunch of pictures of Chris Hemsworth without his shirt.

I thought it was mildly amusing.

I would call it satire. I guess I really dont see what the problem was with the article at all.

My point was that Avengers (like Terminator) is not that complicated that it needs an explanation, unless it references the convoluted, 50 yr old comics. If you see the movie, you will probably understand it.

I'd get it if the joke was that the bf is a huge comic fan and gf isn't and doesn't get the origins of the Avengers, and the article tries to summarize 50 years of comics into "cool stuff to impress him with". That's a bit sexist (because of course it could easily be the other way around), but at least it's really something someone might want summarized.

Instead they "explain" it by pointing out the names, the romances and who has the nicest abs, because that's all poor dumb gf needs to know.

She can't even watch the movie to find out who each character is (even as simple as "Hawkeye is a guy who shoots arrows"), she'll have to ask her bf to explain it to her. They literally mention this in the article, "to cut down on in-movie whisperings".

Okay, so like this nerd scientist gets caught in like a bomb or something and becomes this totally hot green giant. But he's got, like, serious anger issues, so his BFF Stephen and all his friends, they like, try to do an intervention? No wait, they totally brush him off. And then he's on another planet with his shirt off, and he falls in love with this hot giant girl, and they get married and they're going to have a baby, and then the planet blows up and it looks like his BFF did it. So he's all like, WTH BFF? And they're all like OMG.

That's not how i look at it. This isn't a comment made by a politician or a public figure. This is some obscure article written by a nobody. To go up in arms is only bringing traffic to the article and thus, exposing it (and its ignorance) to a wider audience, possibly having some readers take this stupid thing seriously, readers who otherwise might not have even read it if it weren't for the exposure over the controversies.

if it's purpose is to garner outrage/criticism over something so miniscule, then a bit, yeah.

It's not any different really. I'd say the same thing about those IGN list threads. Just not worth taking seriously.

I'm not really sure why not knowing about the Avengers is somehow just a "girls only" thing.

Hey, how about an article for a "Guy's guide to the Avengers" for all the guys who are going to get dragged to the movie by all their girlfriends who are into the movies.

Also, wouldn't these girls be up on the series by now if they were "dragged" to the previous films in the series?

Maybe my tired eyes missed the offensive stuff, but it seemed harmless and cute to me.

    What to say:
"Thank GOD someone did the Hulk correctly."
    "I can't wait for 'Thor 2.'"
    "Joss Whedon is the man."
"Yeah, you're definitely Iron Man. If he were buffer."
Yes please say these things! =)
