Default Has Green Lantern by Geoff Johns run it's course? Is it creatively bankrupt?

Perhaps the last several years of mythology builidng in the Green Lantern title and its universe has run its course. I mean, they have been very entertaining, but there's not been a new idea thrown in by Geoff Johns into the title. Given that Senestro as the titular character gives a fresh new direction. But it is still a buddy cop type of story. There's gotta be a way to make the title have that epic feeling again. Not just a buddy cop story feeling. I'm not sure if Geoff Johns can make the title dynamic again, like that new feeling in the Green Lantern title when he brought back Hal Jordan titular character, and added various concepts on the Green Lantern mythology. Does anyone feel the same way?
Excuse me. Have you ever danced with The Devil by the pale moonlight?

Personally, I don't believe so. The four Green Lantern titles are currently the only series I am buying, and I am loving Green Lantern. Out of the four series, it is my favorite and I feel it's going off gonna really great direction.

The title of your thread makes it sound like the books are horrible, but you not only admit that they are good and fun but also GL is currently running with a new fresh take.

I love GL and GLC, NG is good but I dropped RG. Is GL. As good as it was during the Sinestro Corp War? No, but that doesn't mean it's bad nor even close to being creatively bankrupt. This thread seems to have an over the top title to garner attention for no good reason.

I don't think the book is firing on all cylinders like it was a few years ago, but it's still pretty entertaining and interesting. Saying it has become "creatively bankrupt" seems pretty harsh and not a little unfair, I think.

I don't know. I don't think so but I've not been reading GL titles for a bit of a while now. I kinda think that the different corps have kinda dulled the space corner of the DCU a bit though. I would much rather read a REBELS or Adam Strange book than several of the GL family titles. I thought all that Starlin space stuff from the past several years was amazing and would much rather read about say... Lady Styx than the red lanterns.

It's been creatively bankrupt since Blackest Night, though even that is being generous.

I follow Johns' GL. I find it interesting. None of these characters are favorites of mine, not yet anyway. I don't usually follow solo books. It's just something I don't do. But I am following GL. I want to know whats going to happen with all that stuff in the book. I mention what the stuff is, but this ain't a spoiler thread. I just want to see how everything ends with the current story arc.

I like it now. Less focus on events and more focus on the characters. I'm also intrigued about the Indigo Tribe and the Guardians' plan to replace the Lanterns, although i assume it's going to be a big event.

This is part of what lured me away from Marvel over to DC in the first place, even before the relaunch. DC for the past few years seems, to me, to have rededicated themselves to telling stories centered around their characters, crafting tales that play to the strengths and highlights what made each of the characters popular and successful in the first place.

As I've said before, the GL-family lost me after the let down of the War of the Green Lanterns crossovers.

And any time I do take a peak at these books, Hal still comes off as an obnoxious, unlikeable blow-hard, and the Blue Meanies are again being a**holes and again making plans that will most likely back fire and make them again look even more senile.

DC would have to make drastic changes to try and get me back.

    Yes.

But it still seems to be popular. These things usually take a while to catch up, I've found; Loeb's work had a similar effect, with some strong early works allowing him to coast for a while, but has been decreasingly popular as it goes on.

    Are you crazy?

Revenge of Black Hand and Third Army are going to be nuts.

Secret of the Indigo Tribe is the arc I've been waiting for since the end of SCW.

The other GL books are just as good, if not better. Loving the Alpha War in GLC and the return of Agent Orange. I haven't been reading Red Lanterns, though.

As for the "buddy cop" schitck you're talking about - get used to it. The Green Lantern series has over 7000 members, character interaction is the reason I like everyone of the main books. Sinestro and Hal in GL, John and Guy in GLC, Kyle and the New Guardians in GL:NG.

If by the end of The Third Army saga those damn little smurfs aren't entirely eradicated by the GL books (well, Ganthet can stay) I'm going to be pissed.
For the rest, I'm enjoying it enough. I didn't read War of the GL, I stopped at Blackest Night, and that's still one of my favourite events.

I liken Geoff John's Green Lantern to Bendis' Avengers books. It's not like they are horrible now, but the dude has been writing this character for YEARS. Maybe its time for a change? Someone fresh?

    Exactly

Except Bendis is leaving the Avengers, and Johns has no end in sight.
