Have Marvel heroes ever really been wrong in their interference?

Whenever Marvel heroes find themselves on an alien planet or transported to another time they often take it upon themselves to interfere in a situation without first gathering all of the facts or considering the greater consequences of their actions. This is usually shown working out for the best, but has a situation ever occurred where it was later found out to be a complete disaster. Maybe the dictator that was oppressing the people was necessary to prevent a worse evil? Have the Fantastic Four or X-Men run into a problem like this?

Best example I can think of right off hand is one time She-Hulk battled a Badoon whom she thought was wrongfully attacking some gamma being from another planet. Turned out said gamma being was a wanted criminal and the Badoon was a lawful bounty hunter not trying to hurt anyone else. The criminal murdered several members of a family before it was stopped.

Anything similar happen for any of the heroes, but on a much larger scale?

They weren't responsible for the invasion, but they put themselves within reach of the Skrulls, got captured and studied, and handed them a nice load of data on Earth humans so that their disguises were just about perfect.

Well to answer the original question I recently reread a New Warriors storyline (Issues 29+30 from 1992) where they got involved in a civil war conflict in the fictional Middle Eastern Trans-Sabal without knowing the facts.

Also there is the Avengers storyline (back in the Kurt Busiek days) when Captain America assembles a secret team of Avengers to infiltrate a religious group, which goes badly.

I think that the topic at hand has been touched on numerous times in the FF over the years. For example, the FF once screwed up Latveria by ousting Doom and putting a worse dictator in his place. They later reinstalled Doom. During Byrne's run, I think some trouble was caused off world by just such an intervention. The trial of Reed Richards dealt with the fallout of Reed's decision to spare Galactus (who then ate the Skrull throneworld and destabalized half the universe).

At the end of "Emperor Doom" Cap and Hawkeye discuss the irony of ending Doom's reign over the planet since he took an unstable political climate (this was the late 1980s) and ended a lot of conflicts by redistributing the resources of the planet. He also abolished apartheid. Hawkeye says either they did the world a big favor by restoring free choice or caused the worst damage. As they flew away from Doom's stronghold, they were getting broadcasts of wars resuming, etc. and Russia accusing the U.S of masterminding Doom's takeover.
