I feel the only weakness so far with Wolverine and the X-Men has been the instances of a rushed Chris Bachalo. There are times when his panels are filled with clutter and debris, and the inker, or possibly the colorist, is not differentiating enough between objects to make them recognizable. The stories have been great fun and I like the cast very much.

I am enjoying Uncanny X-Men now, but I felt it took some time for the book to get moving. The storyline with Sinister was not terribly interesting to me outside of the dramatic conversation that happened between teammates at the large table, and the side stories woven into the storyline that took place mostly within Tabula Rasa were much better than the main thread itself. There was also a Phalanx-based stand-alone that was nice, but did not really stir me. All of that said, it has still been one of Marvel's better books, and I am am generally a fan of Kieron Gillen's work.

Uncanny X-Men simply has not struck me as Wolverine and the X-Men has.

    Both for certain.
If you had asked me the same questions after just the first three issues of each book, I would have gone with WaTXM hands down. Since then, KG's stories have won me over and has been just terrific sci-fi mutant fun. WaTXM is the book I read first, but I wouldn't feel fully sated without Uncanny
I'm just hoping that AvX doesn't shake up this current status quo too much; I like the direction both books are going in and am very much looking forward to more.

Yea, you're right. Being able to produce mediocre books when constrained by stupid mega crossovers is an achievement unto itself, and it stands out compared to the product offered by mediocre writers in the same crossovers.

While it is true the Uncanny X-Men tie-in with Feat Itself was quite good, it is also the former incarnation of Uncanny X-Men, and should have no bearing in the comparison between the current incarnation and Wolverine and the X-Men.

Uncanny is the one I can't wait to read about, it's got a cast of strong characters, and Gillen gets them all, which seems rare in big cast books outside of X-Factor these days. The stories are engaging, smart and very entertaining. I like Wolverine and the X-Men, but I consider it simply to be a fun book with really good art. Aside from the tie in with X-Force where it intro Angel and Evan, it's not really doing much for me plot wise. It's fun and endearing and features lots of characters I like, but that's about it. I do like that they are both such opposite takes of the X-Men, and I hope they keep their different feel for a very long time time.

What? I'm only referring to the current AvX stuff.

I like how both books include a bit of humor, although very different types. WatXM is slapstick with the occasional srsbiz while UXM is serious sprinkled with sarcasm on top. Even though Schism was completely pointless and unenjoyable, I'm glad for the new book(s) it produced.

uncanny has put a much-needed depth back into the mutant franchise. wolverine and the x-men has turned it into a caricature.

I picked WATXM but it's really close...which is saying something when WATXM features my two favorite characters (Iceman and Angel) and I'm not typically interested in any of the characters in Uncanny.

Uncanny has some art problems, and there was the earlier problem with too much focus on villains rather than the team, but that's changed since issue 9. I love it more as it's gone along. The TR arc was a bit on the meh side though.

The opposite has kind of happened with W&TXM. Loved the first arc, thought it was the new New X-Men...but since then I've fallen out of love a little bit. I don't know, Wolverine's characterization recently is genuinely pissing me off and it all just feels a little farcical. Like i feel like Aaron is trying to hard to make it zany and wacky and cute and i guess that's fun but not all the time and not for a flagship book. It's not really cutting it for me as a representation for the gold side and it's ideals. It's just not balancing it's tone as well as Uncanny is.

Uncanny is the better written book imo. It's got bigger scope, it's story is grander and more exciting. Each character's voice is SPOT on(apart from Storm, she needs some work)

WAX. Mostly for the infinitely superior cast and art.

Uncanny for sure. It's got great art, and some of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe.

I dropped Wolverine last week. I can't stand Bachalo's art and Idie/Broo. I may give it shot once Idie stops being such a ridiculous downer and Broo finally turns into the monster he is.

I agree with Optic Rage, almost word for word. The first arc was good, but it started going downhill with Kitty's brood problem. The statement about Aaron trying to make it a little too cute is pretty much spot on.
