For Your Consideration: WATXM or Uncanny

From what I've seen of Gillen's Uncanny run, I'm considering picking up trades as they become cheap on Amazon. I think he's done some interesting stuff and I actually enjoy Greg Lands art. But Wolverine and The X-Men is simply good fun. It's great to see Kitty and Hank get major roles and I'm hoping that the "Bamf" subplot pays off real soon. It's the sole Marvel title that I pick up as individual issues in addition to trades on a regular basis. The only real weakness that Wolverine and The X-Men has is well... Wolverine. The Character just doesn't fit in with the tone of the book. I'm hoping that he'll get kicked out as a result of AvX.

I have put both, the first 6/7 issues i think that WATXM was better but recently i am liking uncanny more but both are very good.

Putting them up against each other is a tough one because as i said they are both.

If I had to pick one it would be Uncanny X-Men but it comes down to what you're looking for. W&TXM is a kids book, a lot of people try to compare it to Morrisons X-Men but it's not like that at all. If anything Gillens work is the next step after Whedons. W&TXM has lighthearted bad guys, and is very Harry Potter esque which I don't like personally but it's a matter of taste. Things also seem resolved too easily, like the diamond tree thing and Wolverine's broken legs.

Uncanny is dealing with threats on another level and things that happen seem to have greater consequences and have meaning. They're on a different stage. They're completely different books it's like comparing apples and oranges all about taste.

Niether of those were core to the plot. Emma's also always had money. Wolverine went to go and rob a casino failed and it was all resolved in one panel with a magical tree shitting out diamonds. Emma was out of commission for 5+ issues with her arm.

Heck the Nu-Hellfire Club should be a lot more threatening given the type of ludicrous technology they have access to. But the fact that they don't have the resources to counter Daredevil is retarded.

Logan's injuries were indeed a core plot point. It's why Special Class 2.0 went to Planet Sin to recover the weapon that bent Logan's bones, there was actually an on panel and story relevant solution. Unlike Emma's murky offpanel fix, people were even asking about follow up for it.

Voted both - as have enjoyed both.

Psot AvX though it is hard to see how the Schism is going to still exist in any meaningful way (and rightly so). The kids in Utopia have gone. Wolverine and Beast have made themselves Avengers first and X-Men second. It looks as if several (most) of the Westchester crew are going to side with Scott during AvX (as they should).

I also think Scott will be taken off the table at the end of this (the inevitable heroic sacrifice that someone will need to do). There will simply be no reason to have a Schism.

We'll end up with two books - effectively a 'senior' top tier X-Men team operating in Uncanny and a school based book in Wolverine but no animosity between the two.

Emma Frosts arm had a major impact on the first arc, they lost their expert in "telepathic warfare" when going up against Sinister. Wolverine's legs were fixed off-panel with a machine and did not hinder him in any of the other stories he appeared in. Cheap drama.

It was still a cheap fix. And pretty much the last straw for me anyway. The Frakenstein Monster thing was equally stupid IMO.

I have a hard time deciding between these two titles. They are both top notch and have their own unique style. Jason Aarron's series is just fun and entertaining. Kieron Gillen's series is gripping and well-written. In terms of X-books, these two belong at the top along with Uncanny X-Force. They're basically 1 and 1A. But if I personally had to choose between the two, I would give a slight edge to Uncanny X-men. While I enjoy the fun and entertaining nature of Wolverine and the X-men, I've always been more partial to the more serious and dramatic stories set forth in Uncanny. But that's just me. I can see why others would prefer Wolverine and the X-men and I'm glad we have two top notch titles like this to look forward to every month.
