    *cough* and Green Lantern *cough*

GL's kinda cheating considering that they've got multiple "main" characters and angles from which to launch books. Rayner, Jordan, Gardner, the Corps, the Guardians, etc...

I'm kind of hoping that a Superman supporting character gets enough support or popularity to create another Superman-affiliated book. I'm not a big fan of the Last Son of Krypton, but he deserves to be on an equal footing as Batman in terms of being a draw.

I swear you have to be Kevin Smith! Are you sure you're not his clone?

Yeah no problem man. Even I think before watchmen is a bad idea.

Btw, when is this Scott guy gonna take over. If I remember right, Jurgens is meant to handle the supers crossover...and from the solicits, I've not seen anything concerning the crossover yet

Agreed on all points, and I'd like to add that Batgirl is in two books...

    Absolutely.

Its only good to have more than one story per month for Superman. Seeing different aspects of his life every month only helps the character and his world to grow.
Even though the title is in a slump, Superman will still sell.

    Agreed.
I enjoyed his run. The whole Arion storyline was pretty good. If it didn't suffer so many interruptions, it would have been told better, IMO.

But with GL, is it Hal that's the main character in more than one title, or would it be fairer to compare the GL family to the multitude of X-books?

As for Babsgirl, Birds of Prey doesn't count if it's a team book, unless it's more like the earliest (pre-CoIE) days of Batman and the Outsiders, where it's Babsgirl with a bunch of people helping her out.

Otherwise, you have to add Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman to your examples because they're members of Justice League.

I thought I was, but it turned out he only grafted his indecryptable genes onto Jason Mewes, but then it turned out Paul Thomas Anderson secretly replaced Mewes sample with his own.

Look... you may well be right.

As much as I'd like to keep reading Superman, I don't see the point if it stays rubbish and Action remains a quality read.

I think, generally speaking, Superman can have two good books. The fact that he tends to sell on name alone is reason enough to try to get decent staff on his titles -- you have a chance of multiplying your sales, there.

It's a bit of a tough spot right now for the writer of the "Superman" title, though; Since "Action" is in a sort of building stage, setting up a status quo for Superman with every issue, there are certain things that are off limits. Any of the very classic rogues gallery, for instance, may be re-imagined by Grant Morrison. A number of the standard trappings have already been re-imagined, the costume and the fortress of solitude, potentially the Superman/Brainiac relationship (ie, that it's a slave program).

Since most people come to the title with a desire to play with those elements, it can be tough to fill the spot.

That said, I think it can be done, and done really quite easily, with just a bit of creativity and dealing with the fundamental elements of the character and mythology in a more subtle, less direct way.

I was thinking more of pre-Flashpoint Superboys origin, but sure: whatever floats your proverbial boat.

Action has definitely been good enough since the relaunch to sate my appetite for good Superman stories, but to me the question whether its all we need is irrelevant because its not all we have. To me there's no good reason to have not lined up a solid foundation and direction for the Superman title beforehand. It doesn't have to be Morrison, and it doesn't have to be Morrison's style, just a team with a vision and a direction, while of course just adhering to Morrison's origin, that's all (not saying anything in Superman has directly contradicted anything from Action, in fact I credit Perez for connecting his story near the end with the Collector arc). I don't want to give up hope that Giffen and Jurgens indeed have that on the way now that the stupid mandate is out of the way, but the Lobdell rumors have lessened my confidence. But hopefully its just that, a rumor. No offense to Lobdell at all of course, its much, much less about him and all about the idea of three creative teams in less than a year, which would just be embarrassing.
