Earth 2 was surprisingly good--I guess it kinda cements that Robinson works best when he's more doing his own thing and not mixing it up in the "regular" universe stuff. Really enjoyed Worlds' Finest as well--a really fun intro to the characters and their dynamic.

Earth 2 was... interesting. My biggest complaint is that we are at the end of issue one and it is clear that establishing the cast is going to take a looooong time. God, another origin story. I am really sick to death of them at this point.
And its a shame that the stuff I liked about the JSA has been methodically stripped from it - the older heroes, the young legacy characters, the sense of history. Oh, and where the hell is Ted?

But it wasn't awful. It was pretty and fairly well written, although Superman's train of thought was rather pathetic. "I miss Lois" followed by "Diana is dreamy"? Come on.

Yes, it is a parallel earth where things happen slightly different. It's the same time, though

Only read Earth-2. I was really surprised by this issue. Definitely Robinson's strongest work in recent history outside of the current The Shade maxi-series. Scott's art was great as well. Robinson's "poetic" inner-dialgoue worked much better here than it usually does with the mainstream DC Heroes. Overall it was a great world-builing and character-set up issue.

That would defeat the whole purpose of the book. That'd be like if the Legion members in Legion Lost made it back to the 31st Century. It'd be like "well okay, where's the hook now?"

    Just read both this evening.

Earth 2 was epic, with some of the best pencils I've ever seen Nicola Scott draw. I've always liked her art, but this was several notches up. The action scenes were effectively done--Wonder Woman's in particular. It was interesting to see Batman use a gun at one point and to notice that the gods on Earth 2 use the Roman names rather than the Greek in Wonder Woman's title. I teared up a bit when Helena lost her dad.

Worlds' Finest was fun. Levitz did a good job with the banter between the two ladies. And Perez's art was lovely. A lot seemed to happen and be explained in this one, despite the 20-page count.

I liked Worlds' Finest a tiny bit better than Earth 2. Excited for both books though.
    Pull list:
Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Worlds' Finest, My Little Pony, Sword of Sorcery, The Flash, Animal Man, Birds of Prey, Lone Ranger

Great to hear that you enjoyed them both, Jim. I thought they were very good reads - easily the best thing I've seen from either writer in a very long time. And I don't even need to state how gorgeous the artwork was from the respective art teams.

Damn straight. Hopefully it's not the last we ever see of it (not counting the flashback scenes in coming issues of WF, of course).

Yup. Pretty darn good set-up for the whole E2 franchise. DC have handled it well so far.

I'm probably in the same camp. I'm old enough to remember the old All-Star Comics title with the 'Golden Age' versions of the trinity in the JSA, and I always thought it was nifty to see older versions of their E1 counterparts that had families and slightly different lives. So, while I hear what thwhtGuardian is saying, I'm a bit bummed that that potential is already gone in this new book.

Since this is a Batman board, I thought I'd start first by discussing the E2 Batman.

I actually thought DC's secrecy over Batman's identity was quiet absurd in retrospect. They should have just come right out and admitted its 'Bruce Wayne' all along instead of all the 'it's a Wayne under the cowl' stuff. Having said that, we still know next to nothing about this Batman and his backstory...so I hope Robinson sheds some more light on the subject.

With regards to the book as a whole, I feel the E2 versions of the Trinity are pretty close to the classic versions of the character. Apart from the costumes, one doesn't get the feel these are alternate universe versions of the characters (I dare say the E2 Superman was a lot closer to the classic Superman than the E0 Superman is these days). I liked the fact that they were all well-established heroes who've worked together before and are close friends and allies...a real contrast to E0. As for the other characters, well, I liked the introductions of Alan and Jay. I've never really read them as young men before so for me it was a striking contrast to the 'elderly statesmen' portrayal which we've all grown accustomed to.

I hated World's Finest because of everything the Huntress book has dumped on it, and I'm not a huge fan of Maguire or Perez these days - I think they'd have been much better off just putting To on the book still, because his art is sensational.

Earth 2.. Sure, why not? It's refreshing to have a world where the big three aren't going to take up as much focus. Absolutely get rid of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, because there's going to be other versions out there, and the character already has enough books. If Earth 2 and World's Finest are big enough successes, you can also guarantee that DC would do something like an 'Earth 2 Presents: Batman Family' issue or something along those lines that does explore that version of the character and the like.
