    Editorial call?
I noticed that, too. I expect you're right that it was an editorial call. They couldn't very well show that he's got the Cloak back over here in the Defenders while at the same time he doesn't have it in the Avengers' books where he is still being quite punked (especially since Bendis made such a [incorrect] stink over in the Avengers that Strange lost all his cool swag when he was no longer Sorcerer Supreme). Mustn't confuse readers of the current Event, after all.

I had mixed feelings about this issue. I loved the Confederates of the Curious, and the implied steampunkish, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vibes. At the same time, I was (and remain) confused about why Surfer swallowed up John Aman and dumped him in the heart of a volcano (which made me laugh and think of Xenu, btw), and I'm also confused why Danny decided that he needed to shut down the engines.

I think that's the million dollar question.

As far as I can tell, the fact that John Aman will murder his friends to keep them going is reason enough for Danny to want them shut down.

Can't say i hated the actual issue. The developments regarding the story were great, but it's unfortunate to witness one of my favourite characters portrayed the way he was.

It seems to me that Danny would think if Orson thought it important to destroy the engines, he should too. After all, Iron Fists are big on the legacy of their name.

Danny was so awkward through that entire conversation. You'd think it was his first phone call, too.

And I loved this little exchange:

Doctor Strange: I, too, have found myself vexed... by the fairer sex as of late. They are the last thing I need, yet the first thing I seem to want...
Iron Fist: Can't you just... say.. anything.. and not have it come out weird?
    Wong: No, he can not.

I think Danny was suffering from his speech coming out "weird" the whole issue.

But that John Aman has to protect the secret is pretty interesting. I saw it coming, but it panned out quite well. The way that history is being used as a strong drive for the action of the present is also interesting. I think in regards to Danny shutting them down, it was mentioned by chariset, if it's something people have died over and others are willing to kill for, it's something that needs to be shut down.

Those gentle touches of Silver Surfer were the best parts. I don't recall Surfer getting such character development in a long time.

Yeah, great issue despite the small frustrating details surrounding the Iron Fist mythos, such as why Orson's shirt is white; why Prince of Orphans has gone mad, etc (except for, Everyone's the good guy in their story). I made my rant on the Iron Fist thread and will leave that there. But about this issue:

    Awesome with awesome sauce.

My favorite line (and it's a toss up with Surfer's volcano line): "They tried to get Fat Cobra, too, but if being John Bonham's roadie didn't kill him in '72..." As a longtime Zep fan, that was pure righteousness.

And it's taken awhile but with the issues 4, 5 and now 6 -- all the character-centric issues -- we're finally seeing the mystery around the Concordance Engines unfold. And yeah, it's pretty impressive stuff if it does have the power of resurrection, which is becoming Fraction's favorite theme in the superhero world (witness Fear Itself, Mighty Thor, etc).

    Questions for you smart folk:
    1. Who's part of Aman's team: I think I spot Nemo and Namor's mom, but who are the others? Any guesses, ideas?
    2. Monsiuer Aucun? Is he familiar or a new creation?
    3. How long after the last issue does this issue take place, and where's the engine that was salvaged from issue 5? Danny mentions it, but you'd think it would be kept someplace with Stephen's engine, no?

that's not true. namor has had plenty of self-doubt crises in his publication. but carry on, anyway.

Perhaps this is why he gets along with Clea so well. She's an alien so she doesn't know just how weird he is compared to regular humans. She just loves him regardless.

Or, perhaps the fact that important, honorable people are willing to kill to protect the Concordance Engines is an indication of just how crucial they actually are, so therefore they need to be protected at all costs.

This was not made clear in this issue which is why I wish Fraction had expanded on why Danny chose as he did. We still do not know what these things are and what they mean to the reality of the Marvel Universe as a whole. Shutting them down may be disasterous or it may be the best move ever. We don't know.

This is pretty much how I felt about the issue too. A great run thus far, even if I don't understand it all.

Can't be for certain, but I'd say it's the day after. The scene where he's calling Silver Surfer, that's the sunrise of the day after his date with Patsy, his initial meeting with Strange and taking Fat Cobra to the hospital.
