Default Clark Gregg on "The Avengers" & the Evolution of Agent Coulson

I can't help but think That Clark Gregg owes his turn as Agent Coulson to his time on the West Wing as FBI Special Agent Michael Casper. A walk on roll that was supposed to be one episode he turned into a multi episode character.

Coulson and Casper have a lot of similarities in their character. Coulson has more action to him more tension but they are very similar characters.

It's impossible to predict how a new character or concept will catch on. I don't think even Clark Gregg knew Coulson would become such a popular staple of the Marvel universe. But for whatever reason, Coulson's dry wit and cool demeanor has won over many fans including myself. I'm glad he's become a part of the Marvel movieverse and now the comics. I hope his character grows, but I also hope Marvel doesn't take it too far. Often when any comic company finds a good concept, they can't help but overdo it.

I got a warm fuzzy feeling when I found out Coulson was being introduced into the comics.

He had a small part at the end of Sorkin's "Sports Night" and was fantastic in that as well. He tends to be able to do a lot with small roles.

He was really solid -- and playing a fairly similar personality -- in New Adventures of Old Christine. It's great to see this success for him; he's a talented guy.

Coulson's one of the best parts of the movie multiverse.

It's odd that you pick that role, and not Mike Casper on The West Wing.

Exactly. Agent Coulson IS Mike Casper. I am kind of shocked that the connection has not been brought up in interviews.
