I think the movie Fury should have been the son of a WWII Fury (a la Howling Commandos) that could have featured in the first Captain America film. That way when Steve awoke in modern times it would have been a nice link back to his past. Granted this would have been a basic copy/repeat of having Howard Stark in the film too and Sam Jackson isn't mixed race, but it could have worked (okay at a stretch)

As for Marcus I don't think it's such a bad idea that Nick has a secret son, I do think it's a bit silly..... no beyond silly that he's lost his eye, shaved his head, grown a goatee and changed his name (just so the movie fans will have a point of reference). I have no problem with him working for S.H.I.E.L.D or being a previously unmentioned character (only Sentry bugs me on that level and maybe Jessica Jones), I do think Marvel is making a rod for its own back by doing such an obvious shoehorned plot twist/storyline.

Ultimately (ha) Marcus/Nick Jr won't be the long term Nick Fury because original one has too much links to various MU characters/history. I do fear the inevitable 'let's kill off the black guy' thing that Marvel does (RIP Goliath, Synch, Bishop as a good guy)

but there's nothing I can do about that
I agree. I liked Battle Scars, I liked the intro of Marcus Johnson. I have no problem with him being Fury's secret son and inheriting Infinity Formula. Even him losing an eye (at least that happened on panel) was fine, a sort of in-joke. I think the problem came with the reveal of the last panel with him looking like Samuel L, complete with goatee and changing his name to Nick Fury. That sort of shoe-horn to meet the movie deadline was too much. Let him keep his name or let him grow back hair.

Movie Fury is based on Ultimate Nick Fury.
Marcus Johnson is Movie Fury adapted to the 616.

Samuel L. Jackson = Ultimate Fury = Movie Fury = Marcus Johnson

so then movie fury and Ultimate Nick Fury are the children of Nick Fury? this equation is broken. movie Fury = Ultimate Fury and 616-Nick Fury is an otherdimensional take on Ultimate Nick Fury but that automatically prevents Marcus from being an adaptation of any of them, imo

Movie and Ultimate Fury aren't related to Nick Fury. They aren't his children. They ARE Nick Fury. Marcus isn't Movie Fury. He just looks exactly like him due to a series of extraordinary events. Don't think about it too hard.

Whether you approve or not is irrelevant. The fact is, Ultimate Fury and movie Fury are alternate-dimension versions of the 616 Fury. Ultimate Fury especially, seeing as he has the regular Fury's backstory almost exactly, not to mention he looked and acted exactly like the white version initially. He's still the same basic character, as much as any of the Ultimate versionas are. And he is, canonically, the alternate universe verion of the Nick Fury of old.
