Steve Rogers has already replaced him dude. Secret Avengers, commarder of Shield. So did Stark...Winter Solder is doing the spy stuff. Wake up.

LOL! Like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers can do anything at all like what Classic Nick Fury does. They aren't suddenly going to have one eye ripped out and suddenly become THE spymaster of MU, are they? How can you NOT see that Marvel's plan is to phase out Classic Nick Fury so they can slot in Fake Fury, when Marvel has outright said, they want their toys and media to line up, across the board.

Since his last illegitimate son was killed working as a SHIELD agent, Fury must be thinking the odds against it happening twice are highly unlikely.

He was in Secret Warriors, but wasn't really in the same role that Marcus is going to be used..and the Avengets 1959 book, which is a in the past title, that they could do...but I not sure how well received it was.
The Garth Ennis MAX book is a 6 issue mini-series set in the past. I'm beginning to wonder about the Defenders appearances, considering how vague TomB was, but I hope that still happens. The only present day appearance of Classic Nick Fury is in Winter Soldier.

If they are, the way some fans are going about is the wrong way. That's my point. I agree that he should not lose his perks...and maybe the are going to phase him out...it's a way you go about it though. and those characters have basically stepped into roles the he has had. He was being "phased"out way before Marcus.

Fans need to buy Defenders..and WS appearances.... his Max, make them see that this isn't what we want.

I think there is room for both. Marcus isn't a spymaster...he's a rookie super spy...big difference. My suggestion is to point out the facts and issues saying he produces the IF on his own. Bashing Marcus is not going to work...they will dig in.

And they could have done a lot worst like bring Ultimate Fury over..then classic Fury would have no chance. Zero...but now there is still one..if folks drop some of the complains and make a better arguement.

Marvel is making Marcus more like Ultimate Nick Fury because that is the version of Fury in their $220 million dollar movie. How is this surprising? Do we really expect MARVEL to uphold artistic integrity or care about fan opinions and reaction?

They did that already and that David Hasselhoff movie was terrible.

Its not like marvel was using Fury that much over the last several years he was off in limbo.

Its not at all surprising Marvel would do this, but of all the ways they could have handled the situation I think we should all give marvel kudos for the way they handled this. Brevoort's interview on the move was also very reassuting and reaffirmed a lot of peoples feelings on this. I liked Marcus Johnson from the beginning, he is a very compelling character. My only minor issue with the story is that I expected a more satisfying in-depth exploration as to why Marcus Johnson would go around abandoning his name he's been called for over 20 years and going by Nick Fury. It would have made more sense if he was protecting surviving loved ones who were affiliated with him as marcus Johnson. Instead we got the explanation that it was a name on a birth certificate and him adopting a new way of life.

Overall I think Brevoort and others have made some great points, which I've voiced in several threads. We do still have classic Nick fury, who is a great character, and he's so great because of his particular personality and his role as a spymaster showing up where you least expect him and pulling on other heroes and villains' puppet strings. He has not been an action hero over the years after his howling comando days, but much more the spymaster of the MU. Therefore Nick Fury Junior taking up that role of more of an action hero, field general shield agent creates no conflict for me. Nick Fury Jr and Coulson (Timothy Dum Dum Dugan Jr) are essentially completely different characters right now and play comppletely different roles from their older counterparts. Moreover they both still exist and will continue to do so.

The movie Nick Fury has not really been recreated for 616. Movie Nick Fury falls somewhere in between Fury Sr and Fury Jr. And going by what Brevoort said, Marvel isn't going to kill off any Nick fury's anytime soon.

This way you can all look forward to classic Nick Fury as well as looking forward to the introduction of a new action hero, Nick Fury Jr, who I am personally interested in learning more about. And you've got to give marvel props it was a nice touch having him adopt Steve Rogers' recently abandoned Super Soldier look.

So in this regard I think a lot of people are crying over nothing and are simply overreacting to a well done story.

Well said, and Marvel other option was Ultimate Fury. So instead, they did this..which allows a totally different character. Hell, Secret Warriors was basically a status Quo change in its self with the death of some HC and fury leave the black ops community...as a Ranger...both Marcus and Cheese were a part of the community...but not this deep.

I say make arguments for Senior Fury, not against Marcus. Who could be a great character...but some folks are writing him off. His background story is easier to understand then Cable. I like Cable...and Marvel seems to also. It's just that it's a real waste...the valid argument is lost within the crying. The infinity formula issue is valid..the other stuff...not so much.

we're all going in circles here. you know good and well that there are people in this thread who flat out disagree with that statement. personally, i don't think you've been keeping track of Nick's appearances. so, of course, it will seem to you like he hasn't been used in several years; evidence to the contrary. i'll tell you that he's been all over the place the last few years. Bendis likes the character. he's been used to indicate SHIELD involvement. he's been on several covers. can't we just agree that you're not going to convince a classic Nick Fury fan of anything and vice versa?

Not much of what Marvel does upsets me in general but this sucks. I do love the Nick Fury legacy which Hickman just added so much to with Secret Warriors. This? awful. This isn't for the love of the characters, of Fury's legacy. Forget Mikel, forget Daisy and the catapillars, Leviathon's arch nemesis now is Cheese and Nick Jr.

Disagree with what, that the Hasselhoff movie sucked?

I'm aware of Secret Warriors, but Fury Sr. hasn't done much since Dark Reign ended. And that really wasn't my point. I'll sum it up in a sentence or two. My point was that Fury wasn't really replaced, Fury Sr. still exists and continues to exist, bottom line people are getting irate over nothing.

he wasn't replaced. he was forcibly retired. he does exist. he's just being phased out. my advice would be to stop engaging old fans of Fury. why? because it's your responsibility as a winner. classic fury fans (me included) are losing a character that we like. that it's gradual is not consolation. you telling us that we're getting irate over nothing escalates things. it's like someone telling you that everything dies after your dog gets run over. nothing we do is going to deprive you of your new Nick Fury. so why bother downplaying old Fury's importance?
