Default Batman, Dark Knight or Detective Comics?

I've had a bit of a break from mainstream comic serials for a while, but recently started following Aquaman and All-Star Western in the new 52 and rather like them. I've been considering following one of the Batman serials, but limited funds mean I can't really follow all three - so which would you lovely people recommend: Batman, Dark Knight or Detective Comics?

As a side note, what are your verdicts on Batwoman, Batgirl, and Suicide Squad...?

Get Batwoman. I'd say it's the best Batbook of them all.

A fantastic writer/artist tandem. Capullo's layouts are extry-kewl. Years and years ago, I probably wouldn't have liked Batman drawn the way Capullo draws him, but I certainly do now. Capullo's DC 52 Batman print has become one of my favorite Bat-images.

I might be inclined to agree...if J.H. Williams was still drawing it. Elegy is awesome (both story and art).

Batman. It's not even remotely close. Tec & TDK are trash and Batman is superlative.

But Dark Knight is getting a new writer (after the Owls crossover), so that opinion may have to be revisited.

    Batman

If you want anything else from the Bat family, Batwoman.
Batman Inc. comes out soon and will probably be good as well.

I would say Batgirl, Birds of Prey are probably the next best, but we are already into the B-/C+ territory and you should get something else if you are limited. Right now Dark Knight and Detective are off-limits until new writers come on and then we'll see.

Yeah. I'm actually picking it up starting with the Owls issue, and await the run with Hurwitz. Hurwitz's Penguin story got so many positive reviews, and I really hope this turns out well, because I'm dropping 'Tec after the Owls issue.

Batman is the best right now. I'd check in on The Dark Knight around 10, when writer Gregg Hurwitz takes over, his Penguin mini was really good. Detective isn't everyone's cup of tea, but can be enjoyable.

Batwoman is good. Personally, I don't care for the current story arc's structure (jumps around a bit,) Batgirl can be fun at times, you'll get a lot of hate from it here probably, Suicide Squad has been surprisingly fun, it won't blow you away, but it's better than I had thought it would be.

Batman is the flagship book. If you want just straight forward Batman stories with classic rogues, get Dark Knight with the new creative team. If you want to read a long story about Owl ninjas, read Batman.

Which just sounds wrong to my ear. I always think Detective Comics should be Batman's flagship title, just like I think Action Comics should be Superman's, and (in a perfect world) Sensation Comics would be Wonder Woman's.

Read "Batman". It's one of the best the new 52 has to offer.

    Seconded :)

Thanks so much for the quick feedback everyone, Batman was the way I was leaning so that's great, will check out Dark Knight when #10 is released. Will get Batwoman too and check out the rest ASAP

You can get the new Batman HC next week iirc, which collects issue #1 to #7
"Criminals are a cowardly, superstitious lot." - Dick Grayson
"That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard." - Damian Wayne
