I don't see it happening. The last Batman flick had Heath's death to bring people who would normally never see a Batman movie to the seats. I think DKR will do rather well in the box office mind you...but I can't imagine it will enjoy the same success as it's previous film, or the Avengers movie, which is being blitz advertised. Add in a Free Comic Book day just before it's release to the states, and Avengers has all the ingredients to make a #1 all time record... Will it fulfill that promise, well, we'll know in less than a week. ^.^

According to Nolan, Bane will be a "classic movie monster." I think he'll be pretty marketable.

The problem is that he looks and sounds ridiculous. At least to me.

Well that's it. It wasn't just Heath Ledger's death that helped it's BO. It was the fact that it was Batman vs Joker, which is a true cultural event. The Joker could probably sell a movie all on his own, he's one of those villains who is as iconic as the hero.

But again, I think because so many people liked TDK, they will come back for the finale to the trilogy. And you've gotta figure in Catwoman, who is also a pretty big icon.

I don't know as Marvel really has a villain that has the same sort of general recognition that some DC villains have. The Joker and Lex Luthor are pretty well known; Marvel doesn't seem to have an equivalent.

No, but having an alien invasion taking on four of Marvel's most well-known heroes is definitely an attention-grabber. That said, Batman + Chris Nolan should grab fans of Batman and the kids, as well as fans of great cinematography.

That's true. But the Avengers is marketed more on the heroes and them coming together to form a team. Plus some ridiculous money shots. (that don't even scratch the surface of the films content BTW). TDK was marketed primarily as Batman vs Joker. That's all it needed to make people sit up and realise "Holy shit, Batman vs Joker? I gotta see this!"

Dr. Doom is perhaps their most known villain -- though the Red Skull might also have some name recognition.

I preferred the voice from the first trailer as well. Producers drop the cash and get to make decisions that could make them more money.

- people want to see it before the Olympics kicks off the following week
- people are watching it during the Olympics because they can't be bothered with the Olympics





Those two aspects will give it a lot of momentum

I chose kids dig Batman more which to me means Batman is on the most popular superhero list.

I don't think it will, but if it does it will probably only be because a lot of people will want to see if they enjoy it as much as TDK and/or because people will be surprised to see what a really good film based on a comic book property can look like and will want to see the entire story.
