Actually, in 1993 Lorena Bobbitt (now Gallo) severed her husbands penis and disposed of it by tossing it out of a car window. At the ned of the trial she was found to not guilty due to temporary insanity and sentenced to a 45 day mental evaluation. Her now ex-husband was such a class act that he went on to star in his own porno movie.
So really, to an American jury, pulling all of the guys teeth would probably not be seen to be as bad as cutting off his penis. Given a choice I know what I'd go with.
Hard to say what a foreign jury would decide, but I'm sure we'd likely not see anything near 30 years. I'm certain a good attorney could get at least some of the jurors to sympathize with the dentist.

As for implants, they tend not to be permanent things. Of the four people that I know who have had just a few teeth in their mouths implanted, not one of them had those fake teeth last a decade. They require constant, expensive maintenance. The bone will degrade over time, and those fake implants will fall out.

As for dentures, they require continual adjustments.

And whatever the case, he will never be able to chew food normally again. Implants don't. Dentures sure as hell don't.

Let's talk about the conviction rate for rape.

Worse still, talk about the rate of those accused of raped actually having charges pressed.

Hell, get even more depressing. Talk about the rate of women who have been raped having the courage to go to the police. Or even telling their families. Or being able to get some kind of support from friends, because they may or may not even believe that she was raped.

Just because someone can eventually move on and live a happy life, that doesn't diminish the severity of what happened. By that standard losing your legs doesn't ruin your life either, but it's pretty freaking severe.

Point one, it doesn't "ruin" any part of his life. Having to have dentures isn't ruining anything. It's annoying sometimes, but it's not a life destroyer. It's teeth, not a frickin' leg or arm.

Point two, it doesn't ruin "his life". It will have a small impact, but it won't destroy any part of his life. The trauma of the action might have more impact than having to have dentures, but having dentures alone isn't going to affect his life in anything more than a minimal manner.

I don't really have an opinion on the sentencing, and we all agree it was a bullshit move deserving of judicial action, but this whole "ruining his life" thing is an incredibly over the top exaggeration driven by emotion not logic.
