Most movies also do not have such a large budget. The average cost for most movies is honestly going to probably be around $30-$50 million or less I would think. There has been a rebirth of movies that cost in the low millions that have done really well, Paranormal Activity and Incidious for instance. If they made 50 million opening it is a monster and they are far into a big profit. Most movies would be thrilled with a 55 million opening weekend
If the film costs $100 million making a $50 million opening is good. For a $200million, well that is a flop. Green Lantern brought in that amount of money and typically a movie will usually bring in about double or triple, depending on the movie, its initial openin weekend number. So that would not even come close to covering costs.
I think the movie will finish over $160 million somewhere.
Carol Danvers IS Captain Marvel!
Karolina Dean + Lightspeed = Rainbow Slash
Support Rainbow Slash.
GL made 53.2 million opening weekend, and with a $200 million budget plus $100 million in marketing was considered below expectations. I think WB needed at least another $5-10 mill to hit expectations.
Same here. I went from thinking this movie won't even get made, to hoping it would at least make a profit to witnessing a potential box office monster in the making. The real test for the Avengers though will not only be its opening weekend, but whether it has legs. With the great word of mouth I think it'll avoid the huge drop off in the second week of most movies which would be fantastic.
