This was fantastic. I'm an old-timer geezer fan of the original JSA who owns pretty much all their appearances since the early eighties and I loved this book!

The artwork was gorgeous. The writing was serviceable, but at times rather unbelievable. That jerk girlfriend of Jay's was completely over-the-top. I can see this is not a comic that is going to have particularly realistic characters or dialogue, but hey, its a superhero comic. I can deal.

But still, I loved the concepts and world-building on display, and how gorgeously it was illustrated.

That last panel reveal of Jay's new origin was wonderful. He's always been my favourite JSA member so I'm quite tickled that he's going to be empowered by the actual inspiration for his visual design.

So seeing that Hermes is going to be giving Jay his powers, I have to wonder if Green Lantern's ring will be related to Kryptonite. And then, if we go a more golden age, no powers just mma+tech route for Al, we'll have the new Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman for Earth 2. Not sure how I feel about that, but as long as Alan is well written I think I'll be okay.

I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. I wonder if the Harper in Al's squad will eventually become the Guardian? I also wonder if this earth had/has it's own Golden Age heroes, like The Crimson Avenger? I will definitely stick around for the next few issues.

Does make me curious about Al. RIght now, he's closer to Wildcat than the Atom...

    Default i love Earth 2

I gotta say I'm surprised how much I like the Earth 2 book despite the relaunched. It's like a reimagined version of the Pre-Crisis Earth 2 universe seeing Jay Garrick about to become the Flash (gotta love it).
This is the best thing out of the relaunch since Aquaman & Stormwatch so glad that Earth 2 is back I feel like I'm ten years old can't wait for the next issue haven't been like this since Planetary was out.

I never, ever thought I would say this, but DC's Post-FLASHPOINT plans are proving much more ambitious than even their Post-COIE plans back in 1986.

Many of us thought that COIE and the changes it created were quite radical at the time, and they were. Compared to what's happened during the past seven months, though, all those changes seem almost like minor adjustments by comparison.

I have been looking forward to this issue the most since it's announcement.

    Things I learned:

    1. This Joan is a cold, selfish major piece of work. Jay is an idiot for putting up with her treatment of him, I don't care how immature and young she is. I understand some people can't take a hint and brutal honesty is necessary, but she went way past that point. Way to overreact, Zoloft...the guy just came to see you off. Just humor him for the one minute left it took to pack your car up, drive away, unfriend him from Facebook and call it a day. It'd be one thing if he were some crazy potentially rapey stalker or something, but all we got was a guy walking down the sidewalk all "Heyo! How's it going? Pleased t'meetcha!" so I don't think I'm off base here.

    2. Earth-2 Batman is really a terrible strategist. His big plan was Supes and Wondy hit stuff, Supergirl patrols between all the other towers, Robin wastes fuel and just floats there while watching death and destruction go on, and himself climbing into a tower to basically place a wacky virus in a brick that somehow just interfaces with New God tech but will kill him upon detection of intrusion. A few things here...If Darkseid or any badguy, really, had the foresight to implement a self-destruct action upon voiding warranties and going past the silver sticker, why wouldn't said bad guy not realize the very concept of a virus was possible - I mean the logic flow itself infers that as opposed to "Me Grimlock! Only boom-boom happens from bang bang!" Assuming in this narrative that yes, we really, really, need to have the equivalent of Mario running underneath Bowser on a bridge over lava and hitting the hammer but doing so would also kill him to save the world, would this really be the best plan for all the players' roles? The towers don't seem THAT well guarded that human Batman could just ninja his way through in a few minutes...why couldn't everyone just hang out in the Batcave with Alfred while Superman or Supergirl just flew really fast, and if necessary around the planet a bajillion times to gain velocity and at some moment just brute-force their way through to the glowy yellow spot, throw/drop, and fly away. None of them would have to die! All that time wasted hitting stuff getting to the point where the soldiers had to break glass in case of emergencies resulted in more dying and ugly craters. Well done, Trinity. There are a number of other alternative plans they could have gone with that minimized casualties.

    3. Congratulations, Al Pratt, you got your powers at the cost of all your men dying and Batman's awesome plan. You can be DC's Captain America, now.

    4. Alan Scott is a pimp.

Can't wait for the second issue!

I really liked this. The art alone is worth the price of admission. I can only imagine how great the JL book would have been with someone like Nicola Scott on the art duties.

Odd how we saw no body for Superman. What if he was taken by Darkseid's forces? In JL we saw them try and re-purpose Kal into a vehicle of destruction, maybe they were successful on EARTH-TWO?

I loved this, but I did have one (although minor) complaint/query.
Is this Wonder Woman's pantheon different or was it a mistake by the author? I know that Roman and Greek gods are essentially the same, but it did bother me that Hermes, Athena, Zeus, Dionysus, etc were called by their Roman names (Mercury, Juno, Jupiter, Bacchus respectively).

I think this Wonder Woman's pantheon is different, using the Roman versions instead of the Greek.

Yep. Pretty sure he's not dead.

The art really makes it look like he's disintegrating though, he's burning away to the bone in the art. I would think if they wanted to make his fate more ambiguous they wouldn't have made a point to show his body ripping apart like that. I'd say the likelihood is that he's dead.

Although if they tossed a twist out there and he does turn up alive at some point, it would account for the complete lack of emotional discourse of any kind prior, compared to what Wonder Woman and Batman got with Mercury and Helena respectively.

Well...they definitely made this Earth feel radically different from the other, which is good. The Trinity went down with a good fight, which I like. The new, contemporary takes on Alan and Jay are interesting...

Yeah, I'm definitely sold on this. Looking forward to more.
