Let's wait and see what happens - the beats are there (but that's the norm for almost all takes on the Superman story) but we don't know, for example, what experiences this man has in his formative years. Racial abuse, the family being attacked, perhaps problems at school and college/university. We don't know (yet) if he was a reporter (which, frankly, is the best job for him, other than devising some tech and becoming independently wealthy and having flexibility in what he does that way) or what led to him becoming President.

So let's wait and see :)

I was only complaining about the Kryptonian part of the origin. His Earth origin is still unknown until Wednesday.

I think the change comes when he lands. It's still suppose to be Kal-El.

Well, the hyphens are taken out so maybe the pronunciation is different...

In a couple of 'Elseworlds' I've come up with I've used different 'pronunciations', one of which was 'Khalil' for Kal.

I suppose they could have used another noble gas to name the planet as well :)

People thought the interlude during the Collector arc was going to be filler as well, turned out it wasn't (a few might still stubbornly insist so but the collected arc proves otherwise). So I wouldn't be so quick to assume that a supposed stand-alone issue won't contain very relevant materials going forward.

Definitely, the vibe I got immediately upon realizing Jorel and Lara and Kalel is that Earth-Whatever Krypton had some key - and yet circumstantial - differences. I'm not sure if, for instance, it was common on Earth-0 Vathlo Island for Kryptonians to drop their hyphens, but they did here. But obviously the important part is that this is still the El family, it's just that sometime in their past they settled on Vathlo rather than Kandor/whatever-city-Jor-El came from.

And Morrison has also referred to Kandor as the "Science Capital" in the Earth-Zero Krypton, so this city on Vathlo seems to have accumulated that role here. Which explains the El family (noted scientists, all) having settled there however long ago. Thinking about details beyond that will make heads explode.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the little man there (is Teetotal the name he's going by right now I'm not sure?)
He still doesn't have a name. Glenmorgan called him the Teetotaller because he didn't know what else to call him. Glenmorgan offered him a drink in the first issue and he said "Mr. Glenmorgan, I'm teetotal".

In the concept art and sketches, as well as in passing, he's referred to as "The Little Man", and that's as official as it gets right now.

I wonder if this Super-Doom is a new version of Ultraman.

Maybe we'll get the "Court of Ultras."

Perhaps it'll be some version of Doomsday but I don't know.

All I'm thinking is his identity must be public knowledge because there is no way that he could pull a glasses as a disguise when he's the president of the US. The general public doesn't know who Clark Kent is and he isn't a nationwide figure, so they wouldn't put the two together. Black Clark/Superman as president and no one is supposed to know they're one and the same? Yeah, right.
