But I agree with you about Black Canary; much as I enjoy the character(s), I grew up with her not being a part of the Bat-franchise. (Hell, I grew up with her being a transplanted Golden Age character shacking up with Green Arrow! )

Yeah, I like anyartistotherthanBenes Black Canary a lot, but I don't feel like including her in this. Huntress still tops the list for me, if I do include Dinah, though. I'm not sure I can do a ranking. My faves are Huntress Bertinelli, Steph, Detective Montoya when she isn't angsting, Bette's costume, Kate, Cass, Sarah Essen Gordon, and I love every time Dinah kisses Bruce so much. And Babs is alright.

The difference is that Steph hadprogressed as Batgirl, and Barbara as regressed as Batgirl.

... and that's your opinion. Not fact, just opinion. And, in my opinion, Steph was better as Spoiler or as a corpse than as Batgirl. And "Oracle" had become stale. Before the relaunch, writers were not doing anything interesting with her.

Benes's Black Canary is the worst, I can't believe he had a stint on this book.
I think I enjoy the idea of Barbara more the actual character herself. Her role in every animated project has always been my favorite and I did enjoy her as Oracle but post 52 Babs really isn't that much fun..

Also, god knows i'm a huge Steph fan, but she's not a better or more fleshed out character than Kate. I was having a blast with Miller's Batgirl, but Rucka put some serious work into Kate, elevating her as a character whether one enjoys her book or not. And that's why i voted for Kate.
