I started reading X-Men at around Uncanny #168, and despite minimal readings with the stiff mannequin in early X-Factor, Jean's always been a dead cipher to me.

I looked up the cover to Uncanny #168. That's the one where it starts out with Kitty exclaiming, 'Professor X is a jerk,' right? That's also a pretty awesome issue to start with.

No, because it has Magik in it being a hypocritical little wench.

X-Factor's Jean Grey was an abomination made to act completely out of character to further drive the delusion that she and Phoenix were two different women. Madelyne Pryor was the real resurrected Jean Grey and X-Factor Jean was the Sinister clone, and it wasn't until after Inferno when all three versions of Jean became one that she was allowed to really be herself again.

Also Sefton going all "YUM!" on a bamf doll. I learned a lot from that issue.

I grew up with Maddie Pryor as the take-no-shit flamin' redhead. Experienced pilot AND not afraid to belt Scott in the chops? Why the hell would I look at Jean Grey with any wistful rememberance? That bitch was old and lame.

I would have no problem if they chose to somehow retcon the issue of Fantastic Four where Jean makes her return (indicating that the Jean who died on the moon was a clone). That issue ticked me off.

To be fair, a real life teenager Kitty Pryde must be hell.

Especially when you consider what a racist JAP she was.

Well, yes, of course. Insufferable behavior from KP aside, Illyana was stooge-designate. For her to lash out like that was a complete dereliction of her assigned duties.

Calling out racism while using the term 'JAP.' Wonderful irony.

I do what I can with what limited time I have left on this Earth. Racist minorities deserve their slurs.

LOL, so are you saying Jean Grey was not an authentic character till after Inferno? Since Stan Lee's 60's version is not accepted, the Phoenix Clone was not her, Niether was Maddie and she was dead for a few years.

The mere mention of her name severs the strongest bonds and spawns the most active threads!

    Behold the Jeaaaaaaaaaaan bomb!
Sorry Brevoort, Alonso and Lowe, but Jean Grey is a classic character. She'll outlive you regardless. :)

She was trying to be a normal girl instead of a demonic hellspawn, but Kitty endless blabbering made her snappp...

Anyway, for the good old times!

Kitty is awesome, Illyana is annoying, and Smith could capture dynamic motion with the best of them. 'Nuff said.
