single issues...
essential or tb for older material...
Excuse me for my bad english, i've self learning it (i'm Italian)
DC : Batwoman
MARVEL : Captain Marvel , Iron Man , New Avengers , Scarlet spider
Over the past year I've transitioned entirely over to the books. I prefer hardcover if there is one.
I really love collecting single issues. It's the bread and butter of my collection. There's just something therapeutic about the whole process of bagging, boarding, and cataloging a "floppy" that I really enjoy, and have since I was a kid. Sometimes, for older and more valuable (read: expensive) stuff it's just not realistic to own every issue and the collected editions are still a good way to own it.
Softcover trades. They fit in my bookbag, fold and bend for easy reading, take up less space, and display really well. Hardcover may look really nice, but they're thick, and starchy. Individual issues may get you the story quicker, but they're fragile and take too much time and care to store and read. And once that's all done, you just have cardboard boxes everywhere. I like that I can throw my trades across the room, and shrug it off, then put them on a shelf for all to see.

Normally singles. I wouldn't wait 6 months for a paper back to chronicle 6 issues. At the same time I'm not going to pay a stupid premium for back isses if there is a trade of it. So i guess the answer would be whatever is cheaper.
I only plan to get one or two series where i have the full set that's the only time id pay the premium for the collection part.
I used to be floppies only but I'm becoming more and more of a fan of hardcovers, and becoming more and more interested in digital

Floppies. I like reading laying down and HCs or tablets aren't comfortable to hold that way. I only buy HCs for Golden/Silver Age reprints. Digital I only read the free ones.
HC, Deluxe HC, Omnibus, and digital.
Singles and trades for past story lines.
Cheap. Cheapest format I can get them in. Otherwise single issue, trade, hardcover and digital are fine with me.
For my core series I follow it's singles. For any older arcs I want to look at or things I don't mind not reading monthly I do the trades.
I generally get my favourite super hero stuff (Superman and such) in single issues as they come out, and stuff I miss or hear good stuff about in trade later (The Girls, Love&Rockets, Transmet, Strangers in Paradise, Unwritten, etc.).
Pull List; seems to be too long to fit in my sig...
Generally softcovers, if I really liked sth hardcover, I couldn't afford ordering comics every single issue since I live in Austria...they tend to suddenly cost 6€, anyway when I happen to be in a country that actually has comic book stores (mostly GB) or some friends of me are I tend to pick up oneshots.
