your complaint is misguided....you can run and gun in all those games if you want, you are not obligated to use cover, it is just a widely used mechanic

It's also a usful mechanic that is also annoying as hell. I mean, realistically that's how everyone fights. (Unrealistically we heal like Wolverine when getting shot. lol)

I'm just saying, running and gunning gets you killed quickly. So I'm not complaing that most shooters are getting the cover system. Just that some of them get glichy.

IUf you don't want to use cover play a game with a cover mechanic on easy.
You can just run forward and shoot then.

you can run and gun in gears. i wouldn't recommend it though...my sister is good at it, which is fine when you're doing well. but when she gets put down within a crowd of locust it gets annoying as hell trying to save her ass.

Well perhaps in Gun.Smoke, Kill.Switch and Splinter Cell, none of which I've played, but there are plenty of games with cover systems that don't allow for it. In Wikipedia's article about Mass Effect 3, for example, it's written, "Moving and shooting, a "suicidal maneuver" in Mass Effect 2, is now a viable option because of a revised melee system". Which was a huge improvement in my opinion but in the first two? Wasn't a viable option, as the writer of that sentence puts it. Same in Gears Of War usually (unless you want to rely on the useless chainsaw) and Uncharted normally sticks pretty close to the cover mechanic too, except when there's only one enemy left that you might choose to melee or during a set piece when you're being chased by, say, Nazis who were zombified by a big golden statue. Grand Theft Auto 4 didn't necessarily rely on the cover system ... but that's pretty much all that was praiseworthy about GTA4's combat.

You can run and gun pretty easily in the first Mass Effect, I think I spent more time out of cover in the first Mass Effect than I did behind it, there were only a few times I think you really been it, but it is useful. I've only played Uncharted 2, and while there is cover, there's also a lot of running around in the open shooting a lot of people.

I know the feeling. My son plays GoW the same way he plays Halo. I have to save his ass a lot ... but still not as much as he does mine and I take cover. Sucks getting showed up by a nine year old. 8-)

A lot of people I know ripped the Goonies II for NES. I loved it, played it on an emulator a couple of years back and I still enjoyed it. The game was never as bad as a lot of the junk put out for the NES. You can't go wrong with an 8 bit version of the Goonies theme song.
And it's got some great translation moments.

that's what happens when your big selling point is "Hey, we got a famous writer to write our game!"
Speaking of said writer, there was a game...can't recall the name, it was a downloaded deal that played a lot like Super Metroid that he wrote, good game.

it was going to be much more than that, it was gonna be a multi-media Juggernaut. instead it became a stillborn franchise.

Clash at Demonhead...a lot of people didn't "get it", I sure never did....but I enjoyed all the cool gadgets you could get...like rocket boots, jet packs, lava suits
