I think the movie did the best job possible when splitting between 616 Avengers elements and Ultimate Avengers elements.

I finally got to see the Avengers movie this past weekend. I accidentally said "4 for Ultimates" when I got up to buy tickets and the cashier was like "Huh??" Anyways, loved the movie. Everybody got showcased in the story and in action. The action scenes were phenomenal. When it was over, I seriously could've sat there another 2.5 hours and watched it all over again. The part with the blood on the Captain America cards, that was such a Fury thing to do. I thought it was funny when you heard the counsel tell that fighter pilot that Fury was no longer in charge, I'm like "Seriously? Everytime it hits the fan, they fire Fury. Let the man do his job already. Geez." It was a minor thing, but I loved how in the dialogue nobody really referred to each other by their "superhero" names. It was Agent Barton, Agent Romanov, Captain Rogers or Cap, Stark, "the other guy", even Loki referred to Thor as Odinson a couple times. Its a little thing, but it makes it seems a little more realistic and a little less comic booky which I really liked. It was a good blend of Ultimate and 616 for sure. Probably the only thing I wished they had was more character development before the action. Cap adjusting to the modern world and how Thor got back from Asgard with the rainbow road broken.

I didn't like Agent Coluson getting killed either, but I was guess it was sort of fitting that he died in the Avengers as he's spent the last 10 years building them and now that they're built, he served his purpose. My brother said he read rumors that Coulson will be back in Avengers 2 as Vision. I think that's the dumbest idea ever, so hopefully it stays a rumor.

I miss that show
I had that thought. I think it'd be awesome! This is a text I sent to my friend (who I am slowly getting into comics).
Meet Vision, one of the most important members of the Avengers ever. Now in the comics Vision is made by a MAJOR villain named Ultron who was made by Henry Pym AKA Gaint-Man AKA Ant-Man. Now Marvel has been keeping Ant-Man out of the Cinematic Universe because they are waiting for Edgar Wright to finish. Originally Vision was made from the original Human Torch's body, but like I was hinting before: no Ant-Man, no Ultron, which means no Vision. HOWEVER! This being the Cinematic Universe, it can play by it's own rules. So, here's what I thought up! Joss said this character was going to be safe in The Avengers and there's talks that he'll be in Iron Man 3. Seeing how close Tony was to him, I believe that Tony will implant his memories into an android. In short, a grieving Tony Stark will transform Agent Coulson into Vision. When Tony and Coulson enter the room you can here Tony saying something along the lines of "I'll pick you up one weekend and we can do it. Keep the love alive. When Coulson died Fury said he lost his "one good eye" which could easily be a hint at the name Vision.
Anyone who doesn't like Miles Morales is a racist.
There's also the references to Coluson dating a cellist, an instrument that Wanda plays. Wanda does seem likely for a second Avengers film too. Fury said Coluson was my "good eye" or his vision basically. This would be kind of like an ultimization, which I'm typically all for, but I'm afraid if they go this route, it'll by pass any Ultron stories. It doesn't follow 616 or Ultimate, which scares me because then we end up with something like "X-Men Last Stand", which ironically is what the Ultimate X-Men ended up as, except switch Wolverine and Jean.

The vision thing is just fandom wishes, not to mention completely idiotic and annihilation of two characters.

LOL I knew that. Damn Mario Kart. Yeah, I do remember Loki saying something like that, but they made such a big deal out of Thor smashing the rainbow bridge at the end of the Thor movie, I thought that maybe his return to Earth should have been shown and not just a quick line from Loki.

I loved the movie and I'm dying to go see it again. I hope the Blu-Ray/DVD'll come out quickly so that I can watch that end battle over and over and over again. I can't fault the film in anyway except one thing; and that is Thor's involvement. Sure, he was hard as fuk and the arcs of lighting he produced throughout the fight were truly beautiful, but Thor still should have had a little more screentime. Tony Downey Jr however had lots of great scenes, almost as if the film was sort of like an Ironman 2.5. And so I think it should've been Thor that saved the day in the end instead of Tony because there were more than enough spectacular Ironman moments. Cap could have had a couple more wow moments too. I'm OK about it because the film really was so friggin awesome but I do feel like the battle with Loki should have been more Thor's fight than anybody else's.

I think you could argue that everyone could/should have gotten more screen time, but unless they made the movie five hours long (not that that would be a bad thing) I really don't see how that could be accomplished.

One could argue that. Except for Ironman though because he had loads of great moments, but yeah I agree. But I was just trying to say that I thought Thor should have been the one to carry out the climax and not Ironman.
Despite that little niggle of mine though, I really think Joss Whedon did a fantastic job on balancing the amount of 'main' characters in the movie.
