Is this red-haired gal even a mutant? Or...

When British and Dutch adventurers such as William Adams arrived in Japan fifty years later in the early 17th century, they were usually known as kōmōjin ("red-haired people"), a term still used in Hokkien Chinese today.

The Phoenix mythos are already a ridiculous mess, why did Bendis feel the need to make it even more of a clusterfuck.

People just need to give up trying to make sense of it. It just doesn't.

I'm pretty sure this book took place in the past. And even if it didn't, I choose to believe it did because its easier to ignore everything that happened in it that way.

He's just another Jean Grey mark. Jean was part of a series, and not even original or unique in any way. They need to accept that, and move on beyond their fetishism.

Oh, far from that. There is only place for one redhead in my heart, and it is not Jean. But during Excalibur the PF always took Jean's form, and it said as much one time. I will not dig across my comics because I do no care that much, but it is a huge retcon to the Jean Grey character if they are telling now that she was a Phoenix avatar since birth. In fact, it had been stablished that the Phoenix first noticed Jean when Annie whatshersurname died, so... but I can see he advantage of this new "Phoenix series" to what they are doing with Hope and this new redhead.

I thought Jean being the main host of the Phoenix has been retconned so long AGO. *sigh*

Anyway, I'm just happy that the K'un Lun mythos grows deeper with this storyline, continuity errors aside.

For the character it is. It means that Hope is directly relaed to the Force and not to Jean, and in making Jean just one more, instead of the main host, she becomes disposable. There were hints of this over the last years, but this sets it in stone. I sort of like the idea, even if it contradicts a bit some old stories, like Feron being raised to be an avatar of the Phoenix and so on...

Chase is right (unfortunately). Jean's primariness re: the Phoenix was disposed of by Brubaker already. Secondly, many writers have given varying hints of when the Phoenix first approached Jean. She got it when Annie died or when the shuttle went down. It's NOT a major retcon to the Phoenix. It's one, among many, minor biographical retcons to Jean's relationship to her power. Several times Claremont suggested she was born with a relation to the Phoenix (like Hope), and wasn't some mere host for it. Your mileage may vary.

No, what's troubling here is Bendis's weird insertion of FEMALENESS into Iron Fist canon. The Pirate Queen was the only female Iron Fist. FACTCANON.

It's funny how Jean Grey, a gal too weak for the Phoenix, is the sole basis for its INTERGALACTIC existence. It's just preposterous, really.

You have two instances in classic x-men, first the Phoenix noticing Jean when she shares the death of Annie, and then during the Orphange scene. Along came Byrne in hidden years (weirdly in continuity) with the Phoenix looking at Jean and deciding she was not ready yet. Also, the Phoenix Force only came for Rachel because she mistook her for Jean. But Jean was never hinted to be a child of the Phoenix as Hope is. Anyways, like I said, I tentatively like this new Phoenix retcon. Maybe the girl is a supersecret Iron Fist, or maybe they had to kill her before her training was ready.

Oh, never that, it is just that the PF liked her form. And now it is the other way around.

It's possible that the girl becoming a Phoenix host instead of an Iron Fist brought an end to Wu Ao-Shi's legacy.

The issue seemed to indicate that the Phoenixfistgingergirl had been redacted from common Kun'lun history and her story hidden away, didn't it? To me, it just opens up a new story page - not so much contradiction, as revelation.
