Initially I saw it as just a gimmick, then I gave it a chance believing they would actually do something interesting with Hope for once. BUT I should have known better with the Avengers movie on the horizon they were not going to drag them through the mud.
    Although...
The Avengers seem to be winning all the fights so far even if not really by any real intelligence or feat of strength themselves. Instead we have all the mutants falling to moral dilemmas and general concern for others while the Avengers happily take the cheap-shot and call it a win. If anything I see the Avengers as just becoming bigger and bigger jerks as this arc plays through.
For what it's worth I wanted to see Cap on his knees mind controlled as Scott pops his head off, Colossus/Juggernaut holding Luke Cage in place while they put a plastic bag over his head, and Warlock laying the trans-mode virus on Iron Man...but that is just me looking at what is actually there on the table.
I will keep reading this train wreck but I have little hopes for it at the moment.

The way I see it, the reviewer is saying "If you want to see pictures of people hitting each other for twenty pages, here you go. That's exactly what it is, and it does its job well. Five stars. (But if you want story, don't buy this, 'cause there's none here."

I agree with the bold part.
Everything since Hope's rebirth, every trial the X-Men went through, is being thrown away to make the Avengers look good, the team that doesn't even have an ongoing story right now.

Umm, where was that in the Namor fight? 'Cos I really didn't see him being overly torn up or conflicted about what was going on.

I did see him get pinned down by Ben who then calmly walked out of the ocean.

It was in that nanosecond when Namor was torn between using that innocent, but hungry, big fish to wallop Thing in the vent or using his nigh indestructible fist. Sadly, Namor's justifiable fears of pumice (and the need to give Thing yet another straight line) got the best of him and went with the fish.

Fortunately, Thing looked even worse. He should have Greenpeace and Peta after him for what he did that to innocent fish. TOOTH TRAUMA! And Namor at least apologized. Thing, OTOH, just made cruel jokes about the fish's deformities.

Very true, he is being written as a man of power fighting for the little guy (and generally likes a fight he can believe in), that much is covered in this monologue over why he sides with mutants. But the convenient "air vent" and having Namor proverbially put in a "time-out" corner just cements the smugness that Ben always had this fight and always will.

Don't get me wrong they are all "good-guys" and I pretty much like reading them all but the writing just feels slanted in favor of the Avengers. Alot of this feels like the wuss out endings we got in Civil War and World War Hulk, great build-up then just drop the ball. Even worse actually cross the line then follow up undoing things with a "brand new day" like they did with Spider-Man.

I actually just spit coke on my desk.

If only I'd known Thing was a fish bigot I would've been pulling for Namor.

I'm glad you've seen the light. How fortunate that you will have another chance, in a quality publication, as they have a rematch in Kieron Gillen's Uncanny X-Men #12. I think it will actually be the funny fight I expected here.

Well I hope they do it in the forest or something. 'Cos I really wouldn't want Namor getting punked by that pumice rock again. It might give him a complex.

I'll let the gif say how I feel on this:
Ha. Couldn't agree more. This comic was shite and just an opportunity to have the X-men job to a couple of lame Avengers. The Master of Magnetism beaten by Iron Man? Namor defeated by the Thing...underwater!? Total crap.

LOL! Definitely. Namor's all ego, but that pumice is rough!

They'll be in the jungles and rivers of Tabula Rasa where there will plenty of privacy. Which will be a good thing for Ben, as Namor has allies amongst the aquatic life there. Payback will be ... full of tentacles.

I'm glad that some people agree that DUMB fun warrants a 5 star when an independent comic get a 4.5

5 stars is definitely overly generous but eh, it's just another review.

No, it says: "We can't give poor reviews to major Marvel events".

CBR used to be better than this- now it's just like IGN or something.
That's right! Al Gore invented the internet, let's all go kick his ass!

Isn't there a word for when a reviewer takes money to give something a much better writeup than it deserves? Because I honestly do not see any possibility that this is anything else.
