That's just opening the door for more crossovers though and I really don't want that

I actually quite like the idea of UU Reed being involved with the council of Reeds. It doesn't even have to contain a 616/UU crossover, cause if I remember right 616 Reed didn't join the council in the end. Failing that, just some decent explanation as to why he went bad. Yeah, all the stuff about how he was bullied as a kid and Sue leaving him certainly would have had an effect on his mental health, but I'd like to think everything he's done has some sort of important reason behind it, not that he just snapped. Don't get me wrong, still makes for a good villain, but its kinda been done lots of times before. Having him discover some massive universal secret, (maybe with the council of Reeds help) that justifies everything he's gone would add a whole new layer to the story. Kinda like that old Korvac saga from Avengers, where the Avengers take down Korvac thinking he is trying to destroy everything, but Moondragon realises in fact all along he was trying to fix some big flaw in the universe.

As for the actual question, I hope Reed survives somehow. He's one of the really unique UU characters, too good to throw away so soon after establishing him in his new role.
