Eh...I was considering getting all the Owls issues to have fun with the complete crossover, but this looks pretty bad. Maybe I should just stick with the Snyder Batman stuff like I was originally planning.

I have already bashed the work of one Tony S. Daniel enough so I will leave it at that.

Good for him! And good for continuity-hounds. This looks pretty cool. Also, Fright! Also, better still; Nocturna!
Not entirely, I mean if Jeremiah Arkham did indeed have a stint as Black Mask how did he retain his position as head of Arkham? Did he not get caught or did he somehow let Roman Sionis take the fall for it? Still, glad to see Roman Sionis back, always preferred him as Black Mask. Although, I always thought the Black Mask of Roman Sionis had been burned onto his face and was permanent. Perhaps he got facial reconstruction surgery or something?

This preview - and actually, Tony's Black Mask vs. Dick Grayson run itself - allude that the Black Mask itself is haunted. That it "possesses" its wearer. (In that case, is it actually the ghost of Roman Sionis's dad, whose casket it was carved from?)

This falls quite well in line with Black Mask's entry in Morrison's "Arkham Asylum", where it's just this black void of nothingness, and I really like it.

Couple that with the fact that Arkham's co-conspirators in his Ministry of Death were Hugo Strange, Dr. Death, Fright and Alyce Sinner and I think it's reasonable that Arkham's stint can be filed under the "MIND CONTROL" category. They hijacked his body and used him for a crime kingpin patsy. What was the word here; "took him for a joyride"? How Sionis "survived" death at the hands of Selina Kyle, the fact that he was a key nightmare Black Lantern in the Bat-tie-ins and what-not, that I'm more curious about. But not "that" curious, because I'm glad to have him back. It's easy for me to say; "Well, Bruce Wayne came back even after being a Black Lantern, because it wasn't really him and it just operated under the pretense that his friends "believed he was dead""
"Everything hs changed. ‘Dark’ entertainment now looks like hysterical, adolescent, ‘Zibarro’ crap." - Morrison, 2008.

This is pretty much how I feel, even though I thought the preview was passable. On one hand I'm curious about the Owls' history with Arkham Asylum, on the other I'm not a fan of Tony Daniel's writing and I have no real interest in his Jeremiah Arkham/Black Mask arc. On the other I plan on getting all of the Owl issues but I'm OCD and I feel weird only skipping out on this one issue.

I'm looking forward to this. Preview looks good to me at any rate.

Since we have a much younger Catwoman now, I doubt that that even happened anymore.

I think this looks real good. A lot of people were wondering how Bruce could be in both Batman and Detective; I wonder if he will even show up in Detective? Doesn't look like it so far.

Yes he will, but it's gonna focus mostly on Arkham

Ok, thanks. I almost said, "Or maybe just make a cameo." Presumably his appearance here will come after the events of this month's Batman.

That's what I thought. If this book has any text headers like Batman and Nightwing where it says Night of the Owls: 0:00pm, this will probably be after. Also, with USA Today's preview of Batman 8' they showed a page from 9 with Bruce leaving the cave, so it could be a side trip so to speak.

It would have to take place after Batman #9 to make any sense. I do recall Scott Snyder making mention on twitter that all of the NotO tie-ins will have the text headers with the time of night on them. I really hope so because it recently dawned on me that the Birds of Prey solicit says that Batgirl appears in that issue so that might mean Barbara is also going to appear in two places during the night.

    Interesting preview

I've given Tony D sooo many chances, hoping he'll recapture the vibe of Life After Death only to feel thoroughly jerked around by everything he's done since. He's a hokey writer but thing is there's also sense of ambition and unabashed enthusiasm in his stuff that just feels cool, and I really DO want to like what he does. So I think with this issue I'll try jump on again. I've enjoyed when he writes Arkham, I like the string of villains solicited for the following issues and....well damn, NOCTURNA. I'm taking it as an omen! Please don't be so crap Tony!

I have never enjoyed anything Tony Daniels has done in a crossover so I see no reason in picking this up...
