    That depends...

In some versions of the myth Hephaestus was not a product of incest. He sprang from Hera's body much in the same way the Athena sprang from Zeus' and since he was born lame Hera discarded him.

In other versions he is the child of Zeus and Hera but he only became lame when Zeus threw him from Olympus for siding with Hera in an argument.

BTW I really hope that nothing happens between Hades and Diana...Call me picky but I'd much rather this situation not pan out to be Diana's first time being shown in a sexual situation within the new 52.

    http://www.arthistory.sbc.edu/images...hera/hera.html

"The reason that Hera had sided with the Trojans in the Trojan war was because she had lost a beauty contest she presided against Aphrodite and Athena, with Paris acting as the judge. Paris refused to give her the prize even after she attempted to bribe him with promises of world sovereignty."
That's because Aphrodite promised him the vagina of the world's most beautiful woman; a demigoddess named Helen.

Actually that he was physically repulsive is one of the key characteristics of Hepaestus the same way that Aphrodite is physically beautiful. Added to that was his lameness, which made him even more repulsive to the greeks who hated such things (which is why the muscular Gollum from 300 was probably grossly exaggerated, the real one probably just had a limp).

It's and empty notion really, who looks prettier is bound to vary on who the observer is.
In that little beauty contests between Athena, Hera and Aphrodite (over a golden apple Eris/Strife presented them), Aphrodite has the natural edge because of her area of patronage. If i am not mistaken, she was married to Hephaestus because she was that beautiful Zeus feared the Gods would fight over her. So the others turn to bribes to sway Paris...they loose anyways when Aphrodite makes a more appealing bribe and throw a great big fit over it. Might have turned out differently if they had chosen someone else (Hector and Achilles might have been better swayed by Athena's offer, for example).

I saw the rest of the story; of course, I think the vagina was still attached to Helen; it does turn out that Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera did try to bribe Paris and Aphrodite came up with the best idea under the circumstances; so, I guess this means that either Aphrodite, Athena, or Hera could be the goddess of beauty; so, I can't wait to see Athena introduced; I'm curious, how did Athena respond? Did the results just have no apparent affect on her?

I always felt that Athena was just a later addition to the story, since it never matched her character in my opinion

Good point, one that I made a long time ago; all of them represent a trait which Christians associate with the flesh.
