There's two ways of looking at it: on the one hand, yes, this does focus attention on "Helena Bertinelli," putting a massive price on her head and getting people looking for her.

But on the other hand, it's misdirection. If the actual Helena Bertinelli witnessed a murder or something, went into witness protection, and is now living in Idaho as Alison Broadchest, kindergarten teacher, then having "Helena Bertinelli" using that name and noisily gallivanting around Europe actually draws attention away from her. And Helena Wayne may have thought that if she got killed, it at least would serve the purpose of protecting Bertinelli, putting her off the grid permanently.

Great job DC, pissing away one of your very best and diverse characters for some Bat-daughter that appeals to no audience (since this is not the original Helena Wayne, as Jim so kindly reminded everyone, and neither is this the Huntress we've known for over a decade)
I'm not gonna be getting this.

Emma Frost : Breeding, darling. Top class breeding.

If the other Bertinelli fans are upset and refuse to buy world finest then that's on them. It's a shame they wont give the book a chance, but whatever. Despite Helena B's fate I am excited for World's Finest and how this "Huntress" will compare to the old Helena W. and Helena B Huntress.
    you are correct........

I don't believe she's dead for a second. Comics everyone

The writer wants to remove the question of Bertinelli straight away and this is a way of tackling it succinctly and head on. She's dead, easy, now we can begin our story. It works, even if from a fan perspective it shocks. But hey maybe that was the point? Instantly there's new story direction to go with Bertinelli from here. It might happen next year or in five years. I don't know why comic fans are so quick to feel offended or assume the worst in the writer. Or complain because they don't get the answers they want immediately

Cass and Steph too, they will be back, this is a new beginning, you cant throw it all back on the board in the first year

Meh. I think it's pretty clear she's as dead as dead can be in comics, and is going to stay that way until someone with less of a hard-on for the frelling silver age comes to power.

Bertinelli was far from being just a copy of Helena Wayne. I haven't read any Helena Wayne stories (because, you know, she was before my time), but from what I've been told, she and Bertinelli are pretty different characters. Being the original Huntress does not make her the "real" Huntress, leaving any future Huntresses to be irrelevant. When Bertinelli was created, she then became the real Huntress because she was the current one. Now we have a new version of Helena Wayne who is now the real Huntress, again, because she is the current one. However, that doesn't make her the "true" Huntress and it doesn't make her intrinsically better, or more entitled to the mantle, than either Bertinelli or Wayne 1.0. Not being the original version of the character does not inherently eliminate the character's validity.

I'm curious, though. What will your stance be if Wayne 2.0 has a significantly different personality from Wayne 1.0? If all that is the same between them is that they have the same name and are the offspring of Earth 2's Bruce and Selina, then it would be pretty hard to argue that they are the still the same exact character. Would that mean that the current version of Wayne is just a copy and, therefore, not the "true" Huntress as you see it?

I mean, do you believe that Tim, Jason, Steph, and Damian aren't true Robins because Dick was the original? Do you believe that Dick should go back to being Robin because he's the only one with a rightful claim to the mantle? Or what about the Green Lanterns? Are Hal, John, Kyle, and Guy all just irrelevant copies of Alan Scott? Barry and Wally aren't the original Flash, so I guess they're just irrelevant copies of Jay, right?
    Current favorites:

    DC: Smallville, Supergirl, Detective Comics
Marvel: Ultimate X-Men, Scarlet Spider, X-Factor, Thor
Other: Saga, Angel & Faith, Buffy

Reread what I previously said. I said she was a copy visually, which was 100% true, with a different origin - ie a different character.

I've been saying a number of times on various threads around this subject this past week that I for one both expect and am not afraid of characters being updated to reflect current times. Originally Huntress was considered the E2 Batgirl, but this version is to be an amalgam of Huntress' 1-2 from what I've seen so far. Doesn't bother me in the slightest nor changes for me being happy the original version is back. I absolutely, with incredibly rare exceptions such as Miles Morales as the new Ultimate Spider-Man, DETEST replacement characters that almost always prove themselves to be redundant and far more boring than the original versions, IMO.
    Pull list:
Adv. Time, Avengers AI, Batgirl, Batman '66, B & R, BOP, E 2, Fearless Defenders, He-Man, JL: Dark, Katana, Shadowman, Swamp Thing, The Ultimates, Ult. Spider-Man

Hence why I put the quotations around the word real.

Yes I know Helena Wayne was the original Huntress just like Bette with Batgirl. As Helena B is the"real" huntress in my eyes, as is Barbara with you.

Paula Brooks was the first Huntress (Sensation Comics #68), like Bette was the first Bat-Girl.

Damian is cooler! She wouldn't let Dick be Batman, and we all know how awesome that was.
She never clicked with me. Bertinelli was near fascinating and definitely funny to read. I hate that they've erased anyone. There are two Earths. We could have them all!

    Well this sucks...
Hopefully this book fails so DC will bring Bertinelli back.

I hope we can dispense with Barabara Gordon so we cant get Bette back as the "real" Batgirl". Actually, I don't. First does not equal real. Supes isn't the real Superman because he was first, he is the real Supes because he is the one everyone associates with the role. Given that for most of the lives of many of us there was only Helena B, it is hardly surprising she is the real one to us.
