My parents have been dead for 44 1/2 & 28 years, respectively. (And they didn't come back as zombies. Dammit.)

I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."
Basically, if you miss the wonder of a dog flying around in a little Superman cape, you're in the wrong hobby.

Hmmmm...not sure that's an adequate comparison, since clearly not all sequential art is comics. For example, the Bayeux Tapestry is made up of sequential art, but it’s a stretch to call it a comic. My point is that since it has no ties to earth or earth bound science, Star Wars can’t really be termed science fiction. Space fiction of space fantasy is a much better fit.

That's right....good memory! That album was credited to Paul Kantner/Jefferson Starship and yeah, it's a concept album telling the story of a bunch of hippies who hijack an intersteller starship in 1990 (wishful thinking!) and leave earth's troubles behind, for a life wandering the stars.

By strange coincidence, if you check my facebook page, you'll see that I posted a YouTube clip to the song "Have You Seen The Stars Tonite" from that very album just two days ago. Visit my FB page and have you're mind blown, dan.

I don't know about that, never having read the books and having only seen the movie once, but if Dune has absolutely no ties to the real world whatsoever, then yes, I agree that it shouldn't really be classified as sci-fi.

Actually, yes...I am really looking forward to it. Especially since there won't be an alien or face-hugger in sight!

Woah! I had no idea about that Rob, thanks for the tip-off. Sounds mighty intriguing.

Thanks , Rob. I'd never heard of Star*Reach before. Is it a good series and is it worth picking up issue #3 for the Wooden Ships story?

    Never ... heard .... of .... Star*Reach ??? *swoons*

The "Wooden Ships" story is really nice, but it's only 5 pages. There are more reasons to pick up #3 - the wraparound Brunner cover (http://www.comics.org/issue/29033/cover/4/) and accompanying sword & sorcery story, the sf story, the erotic/Lovecraft story... Yes, it's a good series. An anthology, so somewhat uneven, but the high points are very high - Chaykin, Starlin, Brunner, Leialoha, Staton, Workman, Vosburg, Russell, Marrs, Giordano...

The argument has been made, by sometime CBR poster Richard Arndt, that Star*Reach was the most important comic series of the 1970s. His Star*Reach bibliography has all the credits plus his reviews of every issue and an overview of the series' and the company's importance in comics history:

    http://enjolrasworld.com/Richard%20Arndt/Star-Reach.htm

I guess they didn't have distribution in the UK, or you would have heard of them. I hope they're not too difficult to find.
