Default When did Ultimate X-Men "jump the shark?"

I recently got a hold of the tpb Ultimate X-Men 1: The Tomorrow People and really enjoyed it. I realize I can find the rest for pretty cheap so I figured I'd grab a few more.

However, I've read numerous places that the series (along with the Ultimate universe as a whole, mostly) got pretty dull/boring/just not good after a while. What's the general consensus on when the X-Men title got boring cause I'd rather not throw down money on something less than good haha. I know it's all a matter of opinion but I was just wondering before I went ahead and ordered some more.

When Robert Kirkman started writing it.

I liked it through 65 which is the end of the Magnetic North story arc, but I do think there was a quality drop off after Return of the King which ends with #33 (volume 6 in tpb). I think once it tried to do anything with the Phoenix it got pretty bad.

It had some good ideas but failed to deliver on them.

Yeah, Kirkman's run was pretty darn meh. A lot of potential but it all kind of failed. I liked Aaron Collete's issues at the end of the first volume though, or at least I like the Ultimatum issues.

Nick Spencer's new series has been okay.

Magnetic North was the peak. Everything after that was downhill...so yeah, what darknessatnoon said.

Yea I'll admit that it did get worse after that before Loeb euthanized it (well if your definition of euthanize involves a lot of stabbing with white hot knives) Though it did have some good stories like Ultimate X-Men/Fantastic Four Annual. Luckily Spencer's done a great job with the series and here's hoping that Wood can keep the momentum going.
Holding out for a Peter/Miles team up.

For me it was making ultimate Colossus gay, and making Nightcrawler a homophobic dilweed. It was such a pointless departure from their characters. Making Professor X a predatory leech that slept with attractive students (Mystique, Emma Frost, targeting Jean Grey) wasn't cool either. Ultimate X-men was supposed to be about updating the characters for a modern audience, not making them unrecognizable. Kirkman's run sealed the deal.
