Default When did Ultimate X-Men "jump the shark?"

I recently got a hold of the tpb Ultimate X-Men 1: The Tomorrow People and really enjoyed it. I realize I can find the rest for pretty cheap so I figured I'd grab a few more.

However, I've read numerous places that the series (along with the Ultimate universe as a whole, mostly) got pretty dull/boring/just not good after a while. What's the general consensus on when the X-Men title got boring cause I'd rather not throw down money on something less than good haha. I know it's all a matter of opinion but I was just wondering before I went ahead and ordered some more.

It had some good ideas but failed to deliver on them.

Yeah, Kirkman's run was pretty darn meh. A lot of potential but it all kind of failed. I liked Aaron Collete's issues at the end of the first volume though, or at least I like the Ultimatum issues.

Nick Spencer's new series has been okay.

Magnetic North was the peak. Everything after that was downhill...so yeah, what darknessatnoon said.

I would just like to say I really like Kirkman's run, so I would at least give it a shot before you write it off prematurely =) Cable is one of my favourite UXM story arcs.

Just started Kirkman's run, like, 8 hrs ago before I went to sleep. Only about 2 issues into the opening "Date Night" arc but I'm liking how it bounces back and forth between all of the characters. It's talky but I've read every issue of The Walking Dead so I'm used to his pacing & he pays things off in the end. BKV's run was really neat, I love the twist he gave to Longshot & Magnetic North was downright nifty & the Sinister arc was a nice spin on the character. If one feels like just reading Mark Millar's run you'll get a fairly complete story out of that, Bendis is a little weak but BKVs run kicks it up a notch.

Was Kirkman`s run worse than the previous ones?
    Yes.

Was it still better than vast majority of X-Books that came in 2000-2009?
    Absolutely.

Even at its worst UU still remaind pretty solid (apart from Loeb).

For me it was making ultimate Colossus gay, and making Nightcrawler a homophobic dilweed. It was such a pointless departure from their characters. Making Professor X a predatory leech that slept with attractive students (Mystique, Emma Frost, targeting Jean Grey) wasn't cool either. Ultimate X-men was supposed to be about updating the characters for a modern audience, not making them unrecognizable. Kirkman's run sealed the deal.

Robert Kirkman. He ruined one of my favorite books. Like, REALLY ruined it.

I agree with those saying when Kirkman got onboard.
He had some interesting ideas... but it just didn't work. Especially given the fact that BkV's run was so great, Kirkman's follow up was a big let down.
