Without Batman though, these criminals would be facing police officers with weapons and not a guy with boomerangs.

Its the DC universe. If the villians got too big another hero would pick up the slack.

You think the cops just sit around playing cards because Batman's on patrol? The crooks have to deal with both. Without Bats they'd only have to deal with 1.

If the first thug hadn't shot them, probably the next thug waiting around the corner would have shot them.
They don't call it Crime Alley for nothin'.
Batman (and the name crime Alley)were inevitable.

I think it was called Crime Alley after the murders since the theater district of Gotham became quickly run down and neglected. That because I can't imagine the Wayne family deciding to walk down a street called 'Crime Alley' after dark for giggles. "um, Thomas, how 'bout we take Kitten and Lollipop Lane instead. I got a bad feeling about this one..."

In one of the R.I.P issues, crazy Batman figures out, with the help of the gargoyles, that Gotham is a machine to produce the Batman. So i would assume that if Bruce hadn't made himself Batman, someone else would be funnel led down that path.

In some versions it was a revival of the Mark of Zorro starring Douglas Fairbanks. Superman even gave Bats a dvd of the movie for Christmas.

I don't believe it. Everyone knows Superman is Jewish.
