They were completely dissimilar, as you know well American Wonder

It realy seems that Ramona Fradon's design in Superfriends comic book may have been "tapped" in order to provide a template to animated Queen Bee.

Post Crisis version also is completely distinct

American Wonder, in the message quoted right above, I wasn't speaking about Nubia and Queen Bee, I was talking about the classical Queen Bee's look and her animated counterpart. It seems to me that the sudden jetissoning of the previous character design could be hiding, indeed, a secret agenda or, more probably, a discarded/unused idea.

I apologize for any rudeness in my previous posts, but like Eliseu Gouveia, other than some superficial shared features in design, I see absolutely no similarities between the Young Justice Queen Bee and any version of Nubia.

It should not be cause of "wonder" the fact that several similar topics of Wonder Woman's lore are so predictably prone to cause "arousal" and controversy or becoming troublesome to the extent of being virtualy "non-talked about" in spite of their relevance or BECAUSE of this same relevance.

Wonder Woman's roots are so infused with political incorrectness and periodical jetissonings, mini and hard reboots and retoolings, that the entire field has become a mined camp. When I've arrived to the conclusion that there was an obvious indebtedness and satirical anagogical intent in Star Sapphire and her Zamarons towards Wonder Woman and her Amazons as portrayed in the Golden Age, I've made myself the question of how not a single comic book writer or editor has, to my knowledge, pointed out the resemblance. Now I know the answer

I wont never forget the awesome perplexity of some people when Wonder Woman has become a Star Sapphire in Blackest Night and the sheer conviction that such people had that she should not be connected with "love" but, rather, with "compassion" in spite of her historical connection with "loving submission", "gender" power and purple/violet light...

It's due to this fact that I'm entirely satisfied when people such as Grant Morrison and Brian Azzarello choose to pull the carpet behind the fan and opt for taking him out of "his/her" confort zone towards an "undiscovered country".

And here is the link to the solo confrontation between Wonder Woman and Queen Bee in Pre-Crisis times.

Interesting the concept that both the Golden Age's Amazons and Queen Bee have regarded the human minds as being a source of so coveted potential and power...

    Best regards

I'm here hoping to obtain the last nine episodes of Young Justice first season!!

I'm betting that there will be other possible Easter or "Mid-Eastern" Eggs to us "obsessed" viewers...

And here is Greg Weisman's page dealing with some aspects of Queen Bee's design.

    Anonymous writes...
I read this on the Young Justice Wiki:
1 - "Savage bears a scar that resembles the signature mark of the Hunters from Gargoyles, another of Greg Weisman's production."
2 - "Queen Bee is voiced by Marina Sirtis, best known for her work as Demona, from Gargoyles, another of Greg Weisman's production. Queen Bee dons a veil around her shoulders, reminiscing Demona's wings when furled. She also wears a gold armband similar to the one that Demona used on her left arm, and a golden diadem that resembles Demona's headpiece."
was this a conscious nod to Gargoyles? who's idea was it?
    Greg responds...
Neither were, actually. Phil Bourassa designed both characters, and if he was inspired by Gargoyles - a show he didn't work on - I'd be very surprised.
These are coincidences. Fun coincidences, I suppose, but just coincidences.

Maybe, later ,I'll ask a question of him dealing with the resemblance between the design of Young Justice's Queen Bee and its Wonder Woman.

I'm not doing this right now in order to avoid possible spoilers since that I have so many new episodes to view.

Thanks for your kind and oh, so very complimentary, feedback folks!!

Is this the question you're referring to (just out of curiosity): http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/....php?qid=13976

The "edit" to the previous message must have answered your question Theozila!

As you can see, one problem that we always have with animation is the fact that there are creative inputs from several people with disparate opinions, agendas, backgrounds and influences. The golden headpiece might have been a homage to Demona made by the colleague of Weisman, he, himself, doesn't know with certainty if it is or not.

It's due to facts such as these that, for instance, the controversial Atlantis/Nadia debacle was not resolved to anyone's satisfaction and, equaly, the principal motive for my personal non-acceptance of declarations made during the production as the "entire unquestionable truth".

The same is valid to a minor extent to comments speaking about Comics-making offs such as JMS's original statements about Sins of the past vis a vis with his declarations given 3 years later.

Made the post before the edit, but thanks anyways. But like Greg Weisman said with Demona, I think any similarities between Queen Bee and Nubia (or Demona, or any character voiced by Marina Sirtis) are like to be "fun coincidences".

Oh and if you're looking for a legal way to find the episodes of Young Justice, the iTunes store has all of the first season episodes available to purchase.

Thanks for your suggestion in regards to the yet-not-viewed-episodes.

Let's see what I can do about that...

In regards to Weisman's answer, as you can see, it is the half-empty-half full glasswater parable... It can be interpreted at face value or not, but as himself has subtly pointed out, his comment isn't intended as the "definitive/entire truth"."Surprises" can indeed happen and IMO Weisman is underestimating the possible influence and impact of his Gargoyles's series.

Mind you: one POSSIBLE reference doesn't necessarily exclude another.

There is for instance a eerie resemblance between Queen Bee's uniform and, undestandably, the awesome design of John Byrne to one of Wasp's costumes, their "sting" motives and all.

Now, try to put upon the shoulders of this version of Nubia's uniform, above the triangular shape whose point is towards her chest* the gossamer fabric of Young Justice Queen Bee's design, forming her symbolic diaphanous "wings" behind her frame.

*quite similar to Queen Bee's analogous one, though a bit larger)

    IMO,then, the resemblance become obvious.

Take note of the similarity in the colour scheme as well, including the earings yellow tone.

Have you tried asking mr.weisman about it?

I find the similarities btw QB's headpiece and Demona's to be farfetched as they look nothing alike.

Their version of QB is seems to be based on the 3rd version of QB which is, according to wikipedia, a unnamed middle eastern dictator. Whether or not she is nubia or has amazonian ties, I dont know but it could be cool. After all, she could be a descendant of the Bana Migdall and not even know it.

I'm going to chime in to add simply that when I saw that image quickly during the trailer, I thought it was Queen Hippolyta, and that she looked black because of some lighting effect they put on the screen. After all, she's got a crown, earrings, a cape and yup - DOES look very similar facially to Diana.

    But I'm wrong :)
