I'm going to go with the four-shot combo of the Genosha massacre, Professor X dickery*, M-day, and Schism. M-day was heartbreaking, Genosha was horrifying, and then intermixing it with the good professor having feet of clay was just too much. Schism is an out-and-out split of ideological split much like protestants vs Catholics.

She's doing nothing but referencing the age-old songwriting analogy of love being a big heavy anus-rending shitbrick. Leiber/Stoller made a songwriting hit factory in the 50s and 60s based on this.
