I filter it through my own personal lens of introspection. I buy two copies of everything to ensure no loss of revenue.

Magneto's on the team, and in that same classic costume, mostly because it contributes to the "threat".
no one would buy the idea that Iceman would destroy an entire city, or Storm, both of whom are more then capable of it in terms of power.

He is not declaring war on the Avengers He is telling the world that the Avengers declared war on him and that they don't need to worry because he was bluffing abut responding with full force.

The fear is unjustified becasue all of humanity would have been dead countless times without the mutants.
