I tried it, but I couldn't handle the constantly switching artists, most of whom I didn't like anyway.

[A couple spoilers below, so don't blame me...]

There's no arguing that. They're up-front about it on the opening page: "You want plot? Look elsewhere!" or something to that effect. Then you get Iron Man vs. Magneto. Nobody has any business ripping Batman a new one after Iron Man fires no fewer than 2,000,000 (seriously, Magneto "counted"!) anti-magnetism discs from his armor. Even if Stark had a bunch stuffed up his colon, that's ridiculous. Iron Man "wins" because Magnethead suddenly "gives up" (and the reason why is lame).

Namor vs. The Thing is worse. The Thing can now breathe underwater (I didn't know of such a development), and defeats Namor in his own element. And even then, he doesn't, because...well, in case somebody wants to blow some more cash, I won't spoil it.

AvsX is just silly. Not that many others comics, by ALL the publishers, aren't, but this is way, way up there.

The whole AvsX event is just another sad reminder that Marvel pretty much treats the X-Men line as licensed characters at this point. It's considered a big deal because Marvel can't have the X-Men characters in their Movieverse.

Saga is a good one to read. It only just started so you wont be a while catching up with the likes of Walking Dead and Invincible. Plus its really good so far.

Saga is an absolute must, imo. If you pick up one Image book, make it Saga.

Otherwise, I'd check out the creator owned books of other writers you may be reading, namely Ed Brubaker's Fatale and Jonathan Hickman's Manhattan Projects and Secret. If you like their Marvel work, you owe it to yourself to check out their creator-owned work.

Personally, I was, but no longer am, a huge fan of the Walking Dead and Invincible. I feel that TWD has gotten redundant, slow, and is going in circles while Invincible has gotten progressively more mediocre.

If I had limitless sums of money, I'd probably be reading Prophet, Glory, and the Activity. Those look great.

I thought it was okay, but not a MUST. I also didn't like how Fiona Staples' artwork wasn't as good as past stuff she's done.

Proof was an excellent series, but it finished with issue #28...you can get the trades though.
Near Death has been really good.
Peter Panzerfaust which is 3 issues in is excellent.
    Saga has been really good.
    Debris is starting soon.
Also a fantastic fantasy series is Mice Templar! It's been 3 volumes so far and there are trades available for each volume. Highly recommend this one.

Maybe someone should put up a poll listing Image comics and people can vote on the series (or multiple series?) they recommend to new readers of Image, and then sticky it. That way people checking to see what series they should check out will have a real easy time.

I want it, can anyone give me a list of upcoming printings of 1-4 so I can catch up? I know the fifth printing of #1 is this week, but the other I am not sure?

I am going to be catching up on Thief of Thieves this way too. All the issues are coming up like back-to-back as reprints this month.

EDIT: I am just going to wait for the TPB in June and jump in on number 6!

Well, most of it has heen said before, but TWD, starting with the trades is really worth a try. I can only say that the last to trades were like treading water, hopefully it picks up pace again.

Invincible is my current number one superhero title. I absolutely love the artists, Ottley and Walker work magic on the title, so artwise alone it is worth picking up, but Kirkman hasn't disappointed on the story thus far, so definitely thumbs up from me.

Chew is an amusing read, can't say that much about it, only read the first two trades.

I LOVE IMAGE, BUT... $4.00 dollars a pop is still pretty steep but the thing is with IMAGE, very few books I have seen have self-contained stories! You have to buy a few preceeding issues to get caught up to speed and then the series has no end in sight! That's why when it comes to Image, I mostly buy TRDPBKs and maybe I'm wrong, but I think Todd McFarlane is the only one who actually NUMBERS his paperbacks so that's why I mostly collect SPAWN! (However, I am interested in ARTIFACTS.)

Perhaps it would help some Image titles if they do what MANGA producers do, which is to have story arcs of 6 to 8 issues and have each arc have a definite ending! Also, give the reader a hint on first page so that he or she KNOWS this is, say, chapter 3 of 6--that kind of thing. Sure, one can say that Marvel and DC have similar problems but they have something only a few Image titles have--a track record. Most of their books have a LO-ONG history and they are always being rebooted and retconned to death. Sure, that's where Image has the advantage but it can be a detriment for new readers who may want to try something new and different only to have said series be as hard to get a hold on as a bucking bronco!
