Perhaps its an artists protest?

Doesn't look like he's reverted to me. I think this is just a case of artists having different styles with which to depict characters. Nothing has been reverted. He's still cat-Beast. I don't like that style all that much, but at the moment it's not even she tenth thing wrong with what's been going on with Beast lately. I lost all respect for him for his handling of Schism and Utopia, which had nothing to do with his appearance.

X-men Supreme
The "neither cat nor an ape" look has been going on for awhile. Barely anyone draws him as as the full on cat, complete with the "cat" legs and feet that Quitely intended and the other New X-Men artists continued:
I believe it started with Astonishing, when Cassaday took liberties with the feet (either because he couldn't draw the cat legs, didn't want to and the editors didn't care, or the editors told him to change it themselves), and reverted them to ape-feet:
After that, it was a free for all. Now we have everything from Mr. Sanders' interpretation, to most artists just drawing an ape-beast with a teeny bit of cat thrown in (slightly more cat-like ears, a cat-like mouth in Bachalo's case, or just a little cat nose). His "paws" that Morrison had him struggling with have all but returned to 5 ape fingers.
But this Secret Avengers issue might be the first time the artist didn't even throw in the slightest cat-like feature....and was allowed to, for whatever reason.
