Plot-induced stupidity (i.e. the character being incompetent because the story requires him/her to be)

If the Avengers are winning all their fights early, I guarantee you it means that the X-Men are going to turn the tide and start dominating the Avengers. There's no way this event will be nothing but "Avengers win" every single match

I don't know, considering future solicitations seem to have even more X-men jumping into the war.

Letting him go isn't that strange given Magneto recent characteristics, but I don't think he was actually talking to Iron Man, but himself.

Sigh, I just read the first issue and I am disappointed with it. It felt like a cop out win for Iron Man. Magneto just gave up like that....and Thing Vs Namor was going in the right direction until it ending suddenly. I feel conned, I hope the next issue Spider-Man loses and Capt wins. I mean it only makes sense right?

That dude deserves respect. He's got a helluva lot more patience than I do.

The Iron Man/Magneto fight really escalated beyond what I expected. I mean, I'm not surprised that Tony was able to go toe-to-toe with Magneto (and he wasn't getting squashed by the end, despite what X-Fans say) but I really didn't anticipate drawing other planets into the fray. Both men deserve respect for the way they fought, and Magneto deserves respect for realizing the futility of their battle.

The Thing/Namor fight was a pleasant surprise. To answer a question posted previously... yes, the Thing has shown an ability to take on Namor, and has done pretty damn well in their encounters. Ben has always been one of Marvel's toughest characters, but he gets overlooked because he's been used as a whipping boy for the last few years.

I know a lot of X-Fans are butthurt because the Avengers aren't jobbing the way they were supposed to, but maybe now they'll realize that there are other heroes who are just as powerful, and just as tenacious. I have no doubt that the X-Men will rack up some wins during this war, but none of them are going to be anywhere near as easy as predicted.

I'm starting to get the impression Marvel isn't doing this 100% as a gimmick, but maybe they're doing it to give the readers a better understanding of how powerful some heroes are….

oh wait Namor got beat by Thing.

    Never mind.

I noticed a few folks were making predictions. My point was that he'd become a villain in all eyes. He'd be Dr. Doom...

Apparently so. I was annoyed at the way that fight ended.

    Yeah true.

The way he's being written at the moment you could very well be right.

I don't see the problem with Magneto losing. It wasn't a bad loss and Ironman fans really can't say that "Ironman can beat Magneto" as some argument in future battles. Magneto isn't an idiot and when he felt that planet die, he lost his whole immaturity of the situation. While Ironman is flying around talking about smacking more X-men, Magneto realized that this is much bigger than this petty fight. He still has Wanda Pietro and Lorna on earth and I doubt he'll let some bird come and claim them real easily. Hopefully Magneto will join the other Avengers in space to save Thor and possibly help contain the bird.

The real problem with this story is that the X-men are kinda in the dark about things. Yes, Cyclops knows the Phoenix is eventually coming, but I'm not sure he knows its on its way right now and obviously the other X-men don't know either as told by Magneto himself. They've painted Scott in such a way though that I doubt he'd really care that much that the phoenix is destroying other planets on its way as he only has faith that it wants Hope and to repower the mutant race. With other X-men knowing the phoenix is coming and destroying billions in the process, I doubt it would've taken much convincing for most of them to side with the Avengers. So I'm guessing that Cap thinks that Scott knows its on its way now and since Scott really isn't doing much as a contingency plan in his eyes, hes taking action. Which means that Wolverine should be telling everyone over in Legacy what is really happening because the Avengers are assuming that hes talked to everyone in this situation.

He told everyone on the faculty over in WATXM #9, which has been the best tie-in issue so far.

Magneto's loss is acceptable. The story and the circumstances etc made it work.

Namor's loss....UNDER THE SEA, doesn't ring as true.
I know they threw in the "for now" but....pinned to the ocean floor? Oh geez.
