It reminds me of an interview of Grant Morrison where he talks about what influenced his take on Superman for All Star. I'm not going to go into too much detail here, but at one point, he says that, instead of bombing his chest heroically, Superman should always be cool and relaxed, because he had an invulnerable body, and as such, could allow himself to be friendly with everyone.
But isn't that pretty much being cocky? Having a body language and an attitude that says "nope, you can't harm me even if you tried"?
To me it makes sense for Superman to be cocky, to just assume that even if the guy in front of him tries to kill him, it's very unlikely he's going to succeed. After all, he is the most powerful creature on Earth. If he can't be confident about himself, who can?

True on all counts!! I remember that interview. But my favorite thing about Superman's cockiness is that it could be used to take away the confidence of who he's fighting. Like we all know that Superman can doge nearly anything and everything thrown at him but he stands there and smiles as he looks you dead in the eye and you realize....."damn bro, I F'd up, huh".

But really rationalizations aside.....I just freakin love his attitude!! The knuckle blow and no look stiff arm in Action comics #14 really just summed up how awesome he is now!!

This is the guy who inspired Morrison's Superman:

He looked totally relaxed... and I suddenly realized this was how Superman would sit. He wouldn't puff out his chest or posture heroically, he would be totally chilled. If nothing can hurt you, you can afford to be cool. A man like Superman would never have to tense against the cold; never have to flinch in the face of a blow. He would be completely laid back, un-tense. With this image of Superman relaxing on a cloud looking out for us all in my head, I rushed back to my hotel room and filled dozens of pages of my notebook with notes and drawings.

I want to know what happened to the guy. Or at least who he is.
