With a pretty creative power set, IMHO.

Yes, definitely. I would hope they use that power set in the new series as it seems to have a very espionage feel to it, which his powers lend themselves to very well.

People need to remember that this isn't a continuation of the old Valiant, this is a complete reboot/relaunch and they're tackling these characters as if they've never seen print. I've read on other forums and even on here that there was some confusion as to how Valiant was going to go about this, but it's certainly not a continuation of the old Valiant characters, heck......this version of Valiant as a company isn't even the same Valiant that owned these characters back in the 90's.

I think the more people hold onto the characters of the past the less they're going to like the characters as they will be now, especially if those people are nostalgic about the old Valiant. Let's all go into this with an open mind and try not to compare these characters to the characters of 20 years ago, I think more people would enjoy the books better that way. But to each their own.

Totally agree with your points. And with all the marketing, advertising, social networking, interviews, press releases, appearances and signings Valiant has been engaged in over the past two months, no one should be ill-informed about this launch unless they want to be.

I do have to disagree slightly on the nostalgia point, though. I am a poster over at ValiantFans.com with several hundred hardcore Valiant fans and I believe, while these books are a fresh start as you said, they are not going to alienate the old fans either. Based on reviews I have read thus far, XO is true to the original, with just enough nods to the Valiant of old to keep old fans happy, while being accesible to new readers. Think, "Ultimate Spider-Man" in its approach.

I really like this issue. They set up a ton of great stuff, and the whole Vine thing seems way more interesting than the old Spider Aliens.

Almost perfect. I wish they would have shown Aric in the XO armor in this issue. I like this Aric. He seems a bit more "refined" than the Aric from the 90's. And Cary Nord's art was amazing.

That was actually my biggest problem with the issue. Too much setup, not enough lightning sword. :)

Just surreal buying a new Valiant comic in 2012. Quality issue all around. I think it was a mistake not to have Aric in the armor in issue #1 though. Not sure how I feel about him being much smarter and well spoken then when he first appeared in the old comics. Im hoping he calls the armor "the Good Skin" at least. I wonder if this version will be jumping to current times like the old series...

It was cool seeing the old XO issue #1 cover side by side with the 2012 version in one of the insert ads. A&A has a new cover apparantly. Also the Harbinger preview was very strong. Dysart rules!

That was my problem as well. I felt almost cheated considering we don't get him in the suit in the first issue. I felt like they were writing the thing for the trade paperback since it's moving so slowly.

Bought my copy last night and looking forward to reading it. I just flipped through it but the above posts answer what I thought upon my perusal, Aric isn't in the armor.
As long as he's in it by next issue. I hope they don't take the Bendis approach of decompressed storylines or god forbid the horrid Jim Lee JLA opening arc and drag this out.

First issue was pretty cool. I dug the well placed historical facts in the first part of the issue. The space art is also real cool looking. I'm kinda glad he didn't get the armor yet, I think that would have been too quick. What first issue and he already has a super powerful suit of armor? I think its good to let it sit for another issue or two.
Check out this sweet comic coming in 2013!

I am going to pick this up, but my only other X-O read was the Acclaim relaunch. I am going in with an open mind. I am also a big Cary Nord fan.
