Default Ultimate Fury being copied over to 616 - Thoughts?

So there's this new character Marcus Johnson coming into 616 who is basically just Ultimate Fury, or I guess more specifically, movie Fury. Obviously this is to capitalise on Avengers Assemble and look at a way of bringing in SLJ Fury without invalidating the old one or doing the impossible (i.e. turning 616 Fury black).

I just wondered how you guys felt about this, if it's just a cheap cash-in on the movie's popularity or if it's an affront to the EXISTING Nick Fury in the Ultimate comics and Marvel should've just left things as they were and directed movie fans to Ultimate books?

I don't like it. Marvel is taking everything that's unique to the Ultimate Universe and putting it in the Main Universe.

It seems they are even going to change his appearance to look exactly like Ultimate Nick Fury.

Between this and 616 hawkeye now looking exactly like Ultimate Hawkeye, I'm pretty pissed.

I mean, instead of pushing the Ultimate universe MORE as a result of the movie characters basically being Ultimate Fury and Clint, instead, they are just hammering them into 616 and damn the rest.

It worries me because, if they keep doing this, then what is the point of having an Ultimate universe if everything successful is just going to be copied over to 616 anyway?

I thought that the movie-verse had it's own line of comics separate from 616? I like both Fury's I think that if they replace 616 Fury with Marcus it'll be kind of annoying.

    2) Be Wolverine
Ultimate Wolverine is coming back, sort of!

Why is Nick Fury wearing Steve Rodger's Top Cop uniform?

You mean why is Marcus Johnson wearing Steve Rodger's Top Cop uniform.

He's probably going to take over from (616) Nick Fury.

That's Marcus? How'd his appearance change so drasically because shaving your head and growing facial hair does not make you look like Samuel L. Jackson. I was thinking that was something out of the Avengers movie tie-in comics.

It's pretty big bull, but the real loss here is towards the 616 Fury fans.

I'm all for it. 616 Nick Fury hasn't been all that compelling for quite some time. In every major Marvel incarnation, Ultimate Nick Fury has been gaining more acceptance. He essentially is the modern Nick Fury. Sam Jackson beats David Hasselhoff hands down.

And now I hear they're bringing Agent Coulson to 616 as well. I think this is definitely a good thing for 616 since it seems to be where Marvel wants to capitalize on the success of their movies. The timing might be right because the events of AvX may make a new setup in SHIELD more necessary. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

All the arguments would be relevant if Ultimate Nick Fury wasn't the only Fury making appearances outside of comics. To a lot of people he will be the true Nick Fury the same way John Stewart was the true Green Lantern.

I'm against it. Remember what happened last time the two Universe' got to be too similar? We got Ultimatum. And since 616 is untouchable and "Anything Can Happen" in the UU, it'll be the UU that gets the overhaul (again) to once again divide the two.

At least this Marcus fellow has a different name, so movie fans will be confused if they attempt to read the comics. They'll have to read Ultimates to get the real Sam-Jackson-Fury. And 616 Hawkeye has the wrong color; Movie Hawkeye is sporting Ultimate-Red

The red is the thing that pisses me off so much.

Anyway I am all for it and the fact that Coulson is now there might just get me to a crap ton of 616 books to follow him!

I don't mean to sound overly negative but I am very much against the idea of 616 copying 1610 all the time. Hawkeye leading a new Avengers team, a different coloured Hulk and a new spiderman. There's more but I can't remember them right now. I don't read a lot of 616. But when you look at the past two to three years of 616 stories, it is clear to see how desperate the Marvel editors are for new ideas. I hate that 616 is getting a black guy with an eye patch that (I think) will be the head of of S.H.I.E.L.D .It doesn't matter what his name is. 616 is still going to be getting a 'Sam Jackson Fury'. The movies can do what they like, but this is just lazy storytelling IMO. Why can't the films be altered instead? Why do our universes have to accomodate the films so much? I mean, most superhero-movie-go-ers have never read a comicbook in their life!

I know that this post may seem pessimistic. It's because it is. I know posters might not like my opinon but it is infact an opinion and nothing more so if anyone has a problem with it they can kiss my foot!

Hey, I love Ultimate Fury. He's been a favorite of mine since Ultimates first started. But I'd rather they just give regular Fury more of a push and...you know....make him compelling. He's a great character. He just needs focus and a good writer.

And it is a bit weird that Marvel is essentially branding the black version of Fury across the line with Marcus Johnson. I get why they'd want the recognition for new fans, but I'm pretty sure new fans are going to be baffled as to why the guy's named Marcus Johnson.

It really doesn't bother me at all. If I had to pick, I'd probably rather it not happen, but I have nothing against it. Just like Ultimate Fury was a new take on classic Nick Fury, Marcus Johnson could be a new take on Ultimate Fury. Plus, it makes sense to have a book set up like the movie for new readers.

The only thing that would bother me about all of this is if they completely stop using Nick Fury. Having Marcus and Fury side by side could be awesome.
