Has Ash's battling methods changed on Pokemon?

Personally I haven't been commited to watching the Pokemon anime ever since I was a kid and stopped watching Master Quest sometime shortly around the time Ash won the Rising badge b/c I felt that the show was taking dragging on for way to long esp.since I had the Pokemon Silver game and the game is so formulaic that you already have a fairly good idea of what is going to happen.The only reason I became aware with the "Diamond and Pearl" era and beyond was b/c of my hardly decade old cousin asking me for help with playing the games (after all these years despite the updates and new features the game mechanics are largely the same ) and finding websites to watch new Pokemon episodes online,sometimes watching them with her.I 've got to say that I dont really pay much attention to how the battles go and/or it's not like I'm anymore scrutinizing then I was when I was saw the show when I was little.I've got to ask however has Ash's battling tactics and methods changed in any way or are the battling methods always used in Pokemon like the ones used in Yu-gi-Oh where mistakes and bad choices are purposely done so as to display the new moves or abilities of the newly encountered monster?.I think that b/c, I highly doubt that the show abides by the same rules as the games esp.when it comes to levels which I only remember being mentioned once a looonnngg time ago (9th episode:"school of hard knocks") when a kid talked about the level's of Pidgey's evolution.

Side notes:I may not watch the show commitedly like when I was a kid but when the main show ends and whether or not it'll lead to some spin off like "Pokemon chronicles" I'll be there waiting to watch that last episode to have the symbolic and sentimental joy of seeing how the show executes it's closure.Also since really old Pokemon episodes were brought up I'd like to say the episodes where Ash tries to find a battle with the gym leader Sabrina and the group encounters that creepy talking doll,their escape after the battle goes bad,Ash and Misty being turned into dolls with a close up of the doll laughing are to this day one of the most intriguingly,honestly scary episodes of Pokemon and has stuck with me all these years as a result.Does anyone know if they've ever done anything like that ever again?.

it has changed a lot since then. in DP, ash had developed a style of crazy battle tactics and coming up with plans on the fly. this was a perfect foil to his rival paul who was very tactical and was able to think 5 steps ahead of his opponent.

Yeah, it has changed. Not that he doesn't job, considering how long he has been a trainer because he does (looking at you Black and White), but his style has kind of evolved. Biggest example of this is, as master of read mentioned, Diamond and Pearl.

Also, as far as I know, there have not been episodes like Sabrina's ones. I loved those. Kanto in general was cooler when it came to plots compared to the other season.

I mean, the guy with the Sandshrew, the pokemon school, Aerodactyl, Super Ghastly, the entire arc with Blaine.

DP was good for ash in showing him to be the well traveled and experienced trainer. he took dawn's rolling dodge from his first shinnoh gym battle and turned it into the counter shield which is a uber powerful move. shame he seemed to forgot it in BW.

Gary Oak was my favorite character. Bring him back and maybe not quite as dickish as he was in the first season but certainly not "Mr. Nice Guy" he was in the last few eps he appeared in.

Seriously, I doubt Pokémon will ever have a last episode. It's more likely that it'll go on until Pokémon stops being a thing, and then suddenly cancelled.

Pretty much. The guy may learn, but it is all for naught in the end. He's back to square one at the beginning of a new region.

I would laugh if the truth wasn't so sad. They never really fight Giovanni. Team Rocket is active and working in Kanto but the only members the main characters interact with are the trio. Every once in a while, we get to see them report to their bosses who are busy with their big evil plans, but nothing really comes of it.

Wait even in the BW era in Unova they are still cutting to shadowed Giovanni? Thats even worse than just dropping the plot line!

He's not shadowed anymore. He appeared at the beginning of BW told the trio they did a good job, promoted them, and send them to Unova to carry out some TR operations. He also did the same before DP and Hoenn. And of course, there were Meowth's fantasy segments where he imagined just why Giovanni would love it if they stole the pokemon of the week for him.

TR is still up and running in Kanto and there is not the slightest hint that it will change anytime soon.
