There would have been 10 years ago or ever 5 years ago. I think a good part of the old reader has just left and has given up reading the comic and are not around to be vocal.

Would there have been? There's really no way to support that argument one way or another. It didn't happen 10 years ago or 5 years ago so its impossible to reasonably hypothesize whether the reaction would have been better, worse, or the same.

True, but I think it is a couple of things as well, not just old fans not being here but the fact there are quite a few newer readers on here. If you go over to the Superman Homepage there is without a doubt more against the change then there are for it. Could just be a matter of where you go. A good example is that the comic shop I go to in Newark, NJ most of the customers have a real problem with the change and many did indeed drop DC because of the new 52 in general but I'm sure there are places that love it to.

Oh I definitely don't doubt that. Certain circles will definitely hold differing opinions.

Ehn, it's okay. Better than the Perez run at the very least. I just don't understand why DC can't get some 'bigger' talent on the Superman book, though.

Don't they have Morrison on Action Comics? He's the biggest guy you can find (fame and salary). Though if you want the next best thing, i'm pretty sure Warren Ellis doesn't have much to do right now.

I would love nothing but all star creators on Superman too, but let's be real. For whatever reason it is harder to get big name creators to devote to Superman long term. I don't agree with the reasons usually given (i.e. He's too powerful, he's too boring, he's not complex enough etc.) however, it is a perception that's out there, and will forever be the case no matter what costume he wears or whether or not he's married, or whether he can toss planets or just an car.

To be honest, I'd rather there be a good and consistant "no-name" writer or artist or both working on Superman than an overinflated, overrated "BIG" name.

How many times have we been burned by a "big name" creator on Superman? Brian Azzarello, James Robinson and J.M.S. all come to mind. Yes, there are times where we got "Big" names on Superman (Jeph Loeb,Geoff Johns...before New Krypton and Secret Origin, Kurt Busiek, and of course Grant Morrison) where we got good stuff, but I've found the a lot of the best Superman stuff of the last decade was by lesser known creators. Joe Kelly wrote what is arguably the best single mainstream Superman story of the past 15 years (ACTION #775). Mark Shultze wrote an incredibly underrated run of MAN OF STEEL that was some of the greatest stuff of the Loeb era. The year following FOR TOMORROW, with Mark Verheinden, Gail Simone, and Greg Rucka helming the books was some solid, fun stuff and they were gaining momentum until INFINITE CRISIS and the ONE YEAR LATER relaunch scuttled it all. GROUNDED was an abysmal train wreck until Chris Roberson took the reigns and actually made it readable, and dare I say, actually decent. Also, the 80's and mid 90's were a pretty awesome era for the character following Byrne, and I'm not sure you could call ANY of the regular creators on those books in that 8 year period "Superstars" (at least BEFORE Death of Superman).

What sad is that most of those names are no longer with DC because of falling outs with Didio and Lee.

To be fair, of those creators listed, only Rucka and maybe Joe Kelly left DC because of any rumored problems with the current powers that be. Even then, it's only rumors, and neither has gone on the record about it. Gail Simone is still at DC, and some of the others I mentioned like Verheinden and Shultze are, to my knowledge, no longer working in mainstream comics. Loeb has been Marvel exclusive, and it had nothing to do with any issues with DiDio and Lee. He had been on Superman and DC for about 6 years and wanted to do something else.

Yeah. Me too. However the first thing I'd do would be to bring back the old costume and undo the "reversing" of the Lois and Clark marriage, so I'd doubt they would even want me. I would be cheap though. Supply me with free comics and I would be happy.

I'd have at least 18 months worth of scripts done and ready...

I'm not sure about this. When I first read about Superman fighting Helspont, I was psyched.

I picturing an EPIC battle, but this is only going to be two issues. I was hoping we could have another
Darkseid Level threat to add to Superman's Rogue Gallery. Still, I'll see where it goes

I'm sure this is only a precursor to an upcoming battle. You got to introduce yourself first, before you make a splash I guess.
